Analogy fail. You have a choice as to whether you're here or not. If you don't like the way things are you are entirely free to do one as we say in vernacular. If there's one thing that really pisses me off about this generation it's the rampant arrogance with which it assumes that its minor inconveniences are in any way comparable to the unspeakable suffering of those enslaved and persecuted throughout history. I simply cannot and will not respect that!

But when you meet new people, you have to respect them. Imagine a world where everyone you meet for the first time treats you like sh*t because "you haven't earned their respect yet".
So: you treat people with respect. Always.
Trust however is earned.
so please, don't confuse respect with trust.

You don't start with absolutely no respect for new people, and expect them to earn it; but at the same time, you don't start with total respect and knock off points every time they say something stupid. You should start somewhere in the middle, and let the level of respect you have for them fluctuate as you get to know them.

What on Earth are you talking about?
No-one can do anything to anyone on a chat board, no matter how many rep points they have.
There's not even any down-voting in the lounge -- but even if there were, what difference would that make? Would losing a few rep points on a web-site take time off the length of your life? Would it make women stop swooning over you? Would it make you need to respond to 3" ads?

There's another side to this. Low rep members should respect high rep members. By this, I mean that when they post a question, they should respect others time enough to not flagrantly flout the posting guidelines. They should take the time to learn forum etiquette and they should stop assuming that we are hear to make their lives simple by doing all their thinking and work for them.

My dad recently passed away, and I inherited his 1957 Winchester Model 94. It was purchased new in 1958 for the frightening sum of $79.95 along with two boxes of ammo (which he still had). This gun has never had a round chambered, and as you might guess, is in "like new" condition. Along with the rifle, I got the original store receipt (from Sears), as well as some correspondence when a list of service parts was requested, along with the returned exploded drawing of the rifle, and the service parts list (and cost). The exploded view and parts list are printed on glossy paper stock and is dated, July 1 1956.
I want to go out and shoot the rifle, but it's essentially a 60-year-old virgin, and doing so would immediately degrade the exceptional value of the gun. However, just in case I succumb to the urge, I ordered a Williams peep sight. It bolts to the gun through existing holes in the receiver, so at least I won't be drilling into anything to mount it.

This is definitely a hermetically-sealed glass case job! There are plenty of other guns to shoot, but this one? NO!
