I'd be looking for unix developer groups. I'd talk to you, but my driver level stuff was PCI and graphics accelerators....

I'm reading a fantastic book : (same author as the Steve Jobs biography so it's very well researched and written).
The Innovators: How a Group of Hackers, Geniuses, and Geeks Created the Digital Revolution: Walter Isaacson: 9781476708706: Amazon.com: Books[^]
Bill Gates
The biographical section on Bill Gates provides a lot of details about him as a hacker, a dumpster diver, a programmer and a rebel that you don't hear much about. It's extremely interesting. I've always thought Gates was creative, amazing and was very smart even though there are various opinions about him.
Anyways, if you haven't read the book, give it a read. It's really great.
Have You Read It?
Have any of you read the book? What did you think? What did you think about the parts on Gates? Just curious.

I've read various high tech biographies (Gates, Jobs, Ellison) as well as histories of the various companies (Microsoft, Apple, Google, IBM, etc...). All very interesting stuff.
Particularly interesting how the various authors describe the same events completely differently.

A v ery good example of the old saying, "History is written by the victors."

That is true. That's also why you are very smart to read broadly about the events to see what does match up.

What do you do when nothing "matches up"?

I'm almost never wrong.
The reason I say "almost" is because one time, I thought I made a mistake, and discovered later that I hadn't.
