I had one of these for a year or so, now (price then was ca. US$ 20, as well, although I've seen it down to US$ twelve, recently). I tested it by pointing at a point of boiling water, and similarly ice water.
It was right on the mark - better than the claimed accuracy.
Use: this winter, pointing it in and around windows to find cold spots for best use of insulation.

That's a fantastic idea.
Thanks for chiming in since you've already tried one.

Amazon.com?
Better DX.com or alibaba.
I use mine most when making jam, but it's interesting how quickly you get to know how hot things need to be to cook/drink/eat/etc.

Oh, I'm a prime member so I get free shipping from amazon so I'm biased toward it.

FYI: He's an extreme Sinophile and thus suggested two China-Based vendors.
Better? Well, Alibaba was caught with an artificial selling scheme (read that scam) to boost apparent sales. Makes me wonder before I put my money down.

Nope. I just don't see anything in Alibaba's financials that show an American company owning a 50% share. Let alone buying one just prior to their 2011 "Gold Supplier" scandal.
If you mean Yahoo... sorry they own less than 25% and they got that back in 2005.
[EDIT] A little more research shows Yahoo paid $1 billion for a 40% share in 2005 and sold half of that back to Alibaba in 2012. Still not 50%, still 6 years before the scandal and Yahoo was never accused of anything even remotely related to the scandal.

Right, and before you googled, you didn't know that Yahoo owned even one share of the company.

Yet, no American company bought 50% of Alibaba's shares or had anything to do with their scandal(s).

My apologies.
I was unaware that this is an accountancy forum, where percentages couldn't be rough or approximated.
They actually bought 43.26%.
Please forgive me for casually stating that as "half", in a forum for people that don't give a toss for that kind of detail.

But your implication was that an American company took control of Alibaba (by buying a controlling interest) and caused them to do unethical things. Seemed rather questionable given your history and lack of a source. When I smell BS I dig around to confirm or deny. When even the basic information is wrong its easier to debunk the whole ridiculous premise.
