0) When a user tries to browse directly to a controller action that is not specifically marked with the AllowAnonymous attribute, will the user automatically get redirected to the login page, or do I have to code it to do so?

You don't have to do anything. When a controller or action is decorated with [Authorize] attribute then the ASP.NET automatically redirects the user to login page if the user is not already logged in.

1) Is the Authorize attribute involved? If so, where do I put it - on the controller or on the individual actions?

If your all actions in a controller to be authorized then it makes sense to put the [Authorize] attribute at controller level. If you have to leave at least of one of actions to be [AllowAnonymous] then obviously you have no option other than doing it at action level.

i am familiar with form authentication. so please point out some difference between form authentication and claim authentication.

why people use claim authentication instead of form auth ?

in case of form auth a auth cookie is saved in client pc which pass to server for next subsequent request and check at server side which ensure user is authenticated or not.

so in case of claim authentication what kind of into is stored at client pc ?

please share the knowledge in detail and if any good write up exist on it then please redirect me there. thanks

Sure, what I'll do is take hours and hours out of my day to spend my time writing your coursework. Given that you have no understands of even the basics, I don't doubt that the fruits of my hours' of labour will simply be "It doesn't work", meaning I will need to spend hours and hours more hand-holding you through getting it implemented. My main motivation for doing this is so you can get a qualification you don't deserve as you don't have the knowledge for it, in the hopes that one day you'll be a colleague of mine and I'll continue to have to do your work for you, as well as my own.

We do not do your homework: it is set for a reason. It is there so that you think about what you have been told, and try to understand it. It is also there so that your tutor can identify areas where you are weak, and focus more attention on remedial action.

Try it yourself, you may find it is not as difficult as you think.

If you only have a week to go, then consider this an exercise in time management: if you procrastinate for long enough, you have to work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to get you work done in time.
We are not here to get you through your course without having to learn anything: so unless you pull your thumb out and get stuck in, a failing grade is what you are going to get, and exactly what you will deserve.

Apologies in advance if this is in the wrong topic.

I am using the AjaxFileUpload in the latest AjaxControlToolkit (v16.1.0.0), and it works fine in my development environment: VS2013 VB.Net -- but when I move it to either my test or production servers the UploadComplete event doesn't fire. I can tell the 'Sub' isn't invoked at all because I have it write to a log file if it does. I have assigned read/write permissions to my destination upload directory. My Test server is Windows Server 2012 R2, Production server: Windows Server 2008 R2

The UploadStart event IS fired, but that doesn't do me any good because it doesn't receive the "AjaxFileUploadEventArgs".

I have include the relevant bits of ASPX and VB code, and Web.config settings. Any help would be appreciated!

I've been trying all weekend to get my head wrapped around the (self-imagined?) quagmire that is MVC5 Identity. I have created/deleted my project about a dozen times attempting to implement an email confirmation setup. I'm tired of doing all that crap over and over again.

Is there a MVC template or nuget package available that already has most/all of the various identity features implemented?

One last thing - When I create a MVC5 app at home, the ManageViewModel is missing. When I do it at work, I see the Manage ViewModel. Could that have something to do with the patch level on Visual studio (I just did a fresh Win7 install at home)?

Not the anwser your looking for. But are you talking about the OWIN Identity?

I'm on my 3rd MVC project now, and I'm happy with it so far. I dumped OWIN, stripped it out and replaced it with my own stuff. The OWIN was overkill for me. I didn't need all those features, and it was too time consuming to setup for me. Plus I could not modify it, no source code for it. And it kept changing too fast to keep pace with.

I'm running 3 sets of credentials, customer, owner and anonymous or non-registered customer.

I made a DLL called security, and just used PWDTK for the password, and wrote separate attributes for security that I use in the controller.

So the Attr [AdminSecurityCheck] runs each time the controller runs the page, and does all the checking, programs the HttpContext.CurrentUser, and sets Session Vars. It only lives for the lifecycle of the page.

I have 3 of these now, and will just add more features to it later. If the identity fails, it routes the user to the login page for that controller. It also loads the complete identity of the user with there avatar image, everything I need to identify or use the identity, such as email address.

I have no clue what others are doing. I did ask a similar question 3 months ago and heard the sound of crickets on it.

I sort of reversed engineered OWIN and created my own stuff, but there's too much code to post, and I'm not sure if your really interested in what I did.

The 2nd question, did you create a MVC project, I did what you did like 3 times to get that option to show. I found even if you create a DLL for MVC, you have to create a MVC project, and strip out what you don't need.
