I suppose it is a bit churlish to expect realism from a show about "Zombies" but can someone tell me where all of those random people come from, wandering around the Georgia back-country with fully loaded weapons, looking well fed and dressed? It makes no sense.

Don't see your problem. You've got the contents of a nation's shopping malls to select from if you're a survivor and not much competition. As there are currently more guns than people in the USA pre-apocalypse, it really shouldn't be a problem for a post-apocalypse bunch of survivors to deck themselves out with a selection of death dealing machinery!

Not so much that as where do they all come from? The show takes place in a small area of rural Georgia. Rick and his group are always coming across yet another group of people. Where do they all come from? Didn't the zombie plague wipe most people out? Hmm.

The population of Georgia is what, 10 million? So let's say the plague affects 95% of the population (vastly more than any pandemic ever). That still leaves 500,000 people, most of whom will hit upon the idea of heading toward Atlanta or seeking out others at some point and might possibly cross the protagonist's path. In the six years of the series he's stumbled across a couple of hundred?

Well, the guy that shot Denise was the dude that Darryl found in the forest with those two chicks. How he managed to hook up with a bunch of other guys and apparently end up "in charge" of that group is a wonder, because the guy is a retard, and not the leader type.
I'm still not onboard with the whole zombie idea anyway. How long has this zombie apocalypse been going on? Certainly more than a year.
Why haven't they addressed the effect of winter weather on zombies? Do they freeze in place? If so, wouldn't it be easier to kill them off? They're not having babies, so killing them while they're zombiecicles would be a great way to thin the herd, so to speak.
And then, wouldn't the smart play be to go far enough north to make their dicks pull back up into their bodies to at least have some relief from the zombie hordes?

Your point about winter is certainly valid, but do we even know how much time has passed in the series? I'm only up to season 5 myself, but I don't remember any specific comments about how long it's been.
I'm sure someone diligent could figure it out, but are there any specific quotes that give any indication that it hasn't been less than a year?
On another point, my wife did post-grad at Georgia Tech (in Atlanta, Georgia!) and I remember her talking about one of her friends there that was born and raised in Atlanta. Story went that one winter it finally got cold enough to snow. It was the first time that the man had seen snow, and he was 23...
So, really, even if it has been over a year, it's not much of a stretch to claim that it never got cold enough to make 'zombicicles'.

Such is the problem with children in TV shows. You're pretty much bound to have the narrative progress at a reasonable pace, or to replace the actor/actress. Assuming the narrative has progressed as much as Carl has grown, then you're absolutely correct about it being at least a couple of years. I was looking for dialog or the like that didn't require that assumption though.
Some quick googling out of curiosity took me to the walking dead wikia, which indicates that the episode 'Twice as Far' (S6E14) takes place 627 days after outbreak. So, just short of two years. I'd say Carl has aged more than two years (six in real life, obviously,) but that still only puts the characters through a maximum of two winters. Given that, plus my previous comment about snow in Atlanta, I'm not surprised at all that we haven't seen 'winter' in The Walking Dead.
