When I had some problems using authentication in web services I used this simple web method to see exactly what credentials were being used:

  return(r);
}

As you can see, it simply builds a string and returns it from the web service. You can of course just pump to to a debug long or set a break at that point.

The very first step I ever use to determine if I even have an authentication problem, is to give the directory that I will use (or whereeve) the user Everyone and assign full permissions. If it still do not work, it usually is some other kind of problem.

DropDown Lists, Javascript and Netscape4

Hello all.

I'm having a little difficulty with Javascript and netscape 4.

What I am trying to achieve is within a drop down list, when other is selected, a Javascript prompt is triggered for precisely what other is.

This is what works in IE.

So I have a frameset with two frames. In one of these frames html I need my vbscript to access the frameset and hide the other frame. How? I mean how to get to the object of the frameset?

You use the DOM. For instance window.parent.frame2.document will get you the frame named frame2 from another sibling frame. Or you can access the frames from the main window object with just window.frames["framename"]

window.parent is always helpful Smile | :)

in VBScript...(for web) how can I subsitute the IE icon on the top left corner of my web pages, for a personalized Icon??? Ive seen around, but have no idea how to obtain it.

It has nothing to do with VBScript, or any language. You just place an icon file in your web root called favicon.ico basically.

http://www.favicon.com/ has tons on it.

the thing is that favicon changes the icon in the ADDRESS bar...I was refering to the TITLE....way up there on your browser.. I've seen it on a couple of popups but there all blocked up and I have no way of seeing how they're doing it (VBScript, JScript)

Ahhh, ok. I don't know how, or if it can, be done. AFAIAW web-site code is expressly forbidden from touching the browser interface except if the code originates from within an ActiveX or JavaApplet control. God knows I have tried to change print preferences using JavaScript/VBScript and to no avail.

What you might have seen are bordlerless/chromeless windows with simulated title bars.

Also it is possible to change the Internet Explorer icon using the Group Policy Editor on a domain, but that only affects IE browsers used by users within the domain, not visitors to your website.

So in short I don't know and I don't think you can with client-side script. Try ActiveX or a JavaApplet though.

Hi,

I've been thinking about making a multicast mp3 player so I can get to my sizable collection of tunes over the web, create playlists etc and share the stream with friends (hence the multicast).

My criteria is that it has to be able to edit the tags, create playlists by searching the tag values and control who has access all through a secure admin webpage. An option to download a lightweight mp3 client(poss activeX?) would be a bonus. The platform is Win2000 with .Net Frmwrk 1.1

Is there anything freely available already to save me reinventing the wheel?

I am looking for a dedicated .NET and SQL Server hosting provider. I would like to be able to host multiple sites and I hoping to find something in the $400 range (though I don't know if that is possible). Does anyone have any suggestions? I seem to find a lot of really nice dedicated deals but they never include SQL Server without forking up a lot of cash for it.

I've been hounding readyhosting.com for ages to support .NET but they insist that it's still too experimental. I'm not sure if they offer dedicated hosting, but they do support SQL Server for an additional $25. Maybe if a bunch of people started asking for .NET (and dedicated hosting) they might start listening. Big Grin | :-D

I do not know if the have the SQL Server (they do have MSDE) and have not personally used them before, but http://ServerBeach.com[^] has dedicated hosting with 40 or 60 gigs of storage and 400 gigs of bandwidth per month on Linux or Windows 2000 Server for $99-$110 per month.

You can install anything on the system you want to install. They provide several different methods of connecting.

BTW, you have a very nice looking clean site!

We are in need of been able to send out an email to 1500+ people at any single time from our webserver. The system needs to be initiated via the browser but NOT requiring the browser to be open while it sends the mails out.

The emails will be selected from a ASP search on a SQL db and from there the admin will fill out the email subject and body to be used, click send and thats it. Remember that the emails should be able to be sent without the browser been kept open.

We have a Win2000 system with CDONTS, ASPMAil and JMail, all of which dont fill the requirements. I have searched the net unsuccessfully for a COM object or package that can do this OMG | :OMG:

, can anyone suggest any solutions they have heard of please?
