... I had a (probably) VT-52 compatible terminal for my old computer. The monitor and the keyboard still exist, but the terminal board itself is long gone.
Now I would like to revive it by programming a small Arduino board for that purpose.
The keyboard has an oldschool parallel interface (8 data bits, one strobe signal), which should not be a real problem to connect to the Arduino. The keyboard is 37 years old and despite it still having real key switches, it might be a little worn out. Therefore plan B is to use a standard USB keyboard.
The old composite black and white monitor still exists and the Arduino must be able to provide composite video with a 64 character x 24 lines display.
Last, the old computer has a really ancient 300 baud RS232 interface which runs at +- 12 volt. I'm going to need a real RS232 port on the Arduino side, not just TTL level, 3.3 volts or similar.
Can someone please tell me which one of the many Arduino boards can provide those things? There are quite a few of them available at very different prices and I don't want to buy any inadequate boards.

Thanks, that looks like the RS232 part will not be much of a problem.
I have already found a module that uses two output pins of the microcontroller to generate a composite video signal and the sync signal. Additional hardware would be two resistors to mix the signals and a RCA jack. Stuff I probably have lying around. The resolution is only 128 x 96, which would only be enough for 16 lines with 32 characters each, the functions to draw the characters and a blocky 4 x 6 matrix font are also already provided.
The low resolution and the blocky font fit well to the old computer, so that's no problem. Generating video signals on two output pins must have required careful timing, so at last I get to work with some real code and not dumbed down code monkey stuff.
The keyboard part does not appear to be very hard and it now looks like it comes down to writing the additional code to tie it all together. Sounds like fun.

I have an old Pentium II generation notebook with Win XP. At the moment I use this old thing to run a terminal emulation, but it does not feel right. Using the original monitor and keyboard with the microcontroller hidden in the keyboard case should be a little more authentic.

I can't remember if it was on this forum that somebody was complaining about the inactive title bar being left white in the update but here's a useful tip[^] to get colour back in your snoozing windows if it does irk you. Note, however, my comment at the end of the article. It may take more fiddling than it's worth.

Since the functionality is under testing, Microsoft decided to perform A/B test on it. In other words, 50% of Windows 10 users will get the new Aero glass transparency with blur effect in Start menu and Taskbar but remaining 50% will get standard transparency without glass and blur effects on Start menu and Taskbar.
Another reason I haven't "upgraded" to W10 (I'm still on W7.) I do not want to be a guinea pig for Microsoft! (more than I am already, I imagine.)

Not quite sure I follow the logic there as you can override the default you get in the A/B test and presumably the more people that do that the more likely MS will be to bring Aero back. You Guineapigist, you!!!

The A/B testing was done during the public beta period. If you don't sign up for W10 insider, you won't have to deal with any of that sort of fun.
One of the reasons I dislike the site you linked to is that the sunshines running it are severely date-phobic; so there's no indication its content is woefully out of date.
