I tend to use "girl" or "girls" when they are around my age or younger. I use "lady" or "ladies" if they are older or they are black and I don't know them. In the U.S. there is a lot of tension between people of African descent and European descent so I try to be extra respectful and not say something that might be offensive.

Being the antitheses of a gentlemen I use wench, strumpet or trollop. It help that I am in Asia and rarely have they heard those words.
However when one of the young ladies walks up a smacks me a couple of days later I tend to understand.

It depends on the culture of where you are, and I don't mean the country, but the organisation or audience you are talking to.
Some women will get insulted if you call them girls, females sounds very awkward to me (partly because of an excellent sitcom called Friday Night Dinner in which the father asks his son if there are any females in his life), some women do not like the word women because they see it as 'of men'.
It also depends on how formal the situation you are in.
I think it also needs to fit what you call the men.
Men and women.
Ladies and gentlemen.
Lads and lasses.
Boys and girls.
Vicars and tarts.
Bros and hos.

That depends on the positions you're going after. I'm not a Web Developer. I do WPF. Most corporate environments I've seen use WCF.
