Are those still functional?
It's many years since I saw one of those. But I did see a Cinquecento the other day (the old one).

They are sturdy as evil, and can be repaired with anything ranging from scrap metal, bike parts, glue and duct tape. And they do not consume much more than a lightly aged modern car.
They can be considered small scale tanks, both in terms of durability and comfort

I had an old Fiat Panda when at university. It had beeny grandad's until he died.

Lovely cars, Panda 750 was slow but consumed less fuel than a cigarettr lighter - and its insurance and circulation taxes (which are proportional to the power of the car) were the lowest possible. The basic model hadn't even the internal paddings - you were driving in direct contact with the bare metal.
There there were Panda with FIRE engines - the most durable of them all. Specila mention to the Panda 4x4: I have one and it climbs any hill with any amount of snow where the modern off-road vehicles fail.

The dream car of the previous generation :P still a collector piece. Those cars had thick but corrosion sensitive steel, rust has always been a problem, mostly on poorly maintained cars.
That's why many old Italians treat their cars with overzeaolus care...

Often bought by husbands to protect wives should an accident occur - which, apparently is going to be with another wife in her protective SUV.

Hi All,
Wandering around Boob Tube last night I came across EEVBlog and the rant about FTDI shipping an update that 'bricked' devices with a cloned (illegal) copy of some FTDI chips (It wrote the Product ID to 0 which prevents it from being initalised and used). I have a quanity of 'dead' devices I am now wondering if they have had that done to them. Now the hard bit is finding them and a similar device I can read the product ID out of and reflash the devices. I honestly have no idea if that will work but it's something to do.

Cut your losses and get new ones. If they are integrated into a product then I would contact FTDI directly. Reviving "a cloned (illegal) copy" is just that, illegal. Using them opens your company to unnecessary risks.

Oh I completely agree, however being in the PUB at the moment I kinda like problems like this as sort of busy work (yesterday I cleaned out my Trace Elliot and cleaned screws on my Jazz bass, I am now looking at the dust sucker/fan on my PC). Have you ever tried dealing with FTDI about parts for prototypes 'Yes, you can have the two chips you need at the end of the month"(!!!!) this was for a prototype that was being rushed to solve a problem. There stock level is odd to say the least! I mean I have little say in where the componets came from as we used a kitting company, so it's up to them to ensure legit parts get used.

I was just amazed it happened and I was not aware of it. I do tend to use Prolific stuff more than FTDI. The grape vine in the PUB is not up to the job!

You are a bit late. FTDI published drivers one year ago that had the described behaviour but removed them after many protests (see http://www.ftdichipblog.com/?p=1053[^] and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FTDI[^]).
You may find instructions in the web to re-activate devices using older drivers and an old version of the FTDI-Tool FT_Prog (I have only a German link).

Oh, I completly agree, I mean was shocked, it just seems a good way of shooting yourself in the foot, I mean why not have a screen saying "You have bought a fake!" or something like that. Bricking it
