I recommend installing Visual Studio .NET 2003 in its default directory. That will allow you to have multiple versions of developer studio. Now, if you wanted to use the 2003 version only, then I highly recommend that you uninstall the older version before installing 2003.

Concerning the second question. The oulining (the + and -)is availabe in version 2002 as well but it's not enabled by default.
To control this in 2002 you should go to Tools|Options then in the options dialog go to Text Editor->C/C++->Formatting and check or uncheck the Outlining option.
I dont know if there is a difference between the options dialog in 2002 and 2003 but I hope this could help.

I'm working on a project and I'm including sockets. I've included <winsock.h> but when I try to use the socket() function, it says "unresolved external symbol _socket@12" Anybody know why it does this and/or how to fix it?

Hi.
I am wondering about advantages and disadvantages for the following:
1. Making one DLL that hold MANY things. Or many smaller DLLs that hold only things useful for specific purposes (like graphing stuff, database stuff).
2. What happens when a DLL needs to call fucntions from another DLL and at the same time the main program will also need that other DLL. Will the system automatically load it only once etc? I am not too familiar with how this done but just want to confirm.
3. Is there an easy way to keep track of projects (specifically headers in the DLL projects etc) so that when a file is updated, it will automatically update. I do not want to add the header file to every porject file folder and try to keep track of everything like that. Knowing myself, I will definitely screw up somewhere along the way. Any ideas?

1.Logically it's better to separate them based on tasks.
2.the OS manges this for you .. it loads the DLL and unloads it when no application needs it.
3.why don't try Visual source safe ? (Even if I don't like it myself  )

I have in mind to write an application that I'd eventually like to distribute. It is essentially a work out and diet data tracker. I know that there's dozens of these out there, but mine will be the best one yet (heh, heh...).
Ok that notwithstanding ... it seems obvious to me that the best way to store the data is in a database. However ... once I've created the application, how do I go about distributing it without requiring that the user have MS Access, or some other database software installed.
Is there some kind of lightweight solution I can use that I can access using ODBC and distribute with my application? Is it possible to just wrap up the necessary Access .dll's and distribute those with my app? (Licensing issues aside)

The Jet database engine (which is the guts of Access) is free to distribute (in fact it's preinstalled on XP - possibly 2000 as well). Alternatively you could go for something like MySQL.

For a MS Access database you will need the Jet engine and as Dave mentioned in his post, Windows XP and 2000 already come with it. However for the other Windows versions you need to install MDAC. Go to this website to read more.

Keep something in mind though, because I learned this the hard way. If you write your program using MDAC 2.7 (ADO 2.7) then your program won't run with earlier versions of MDAC. I really don't know why and I was never able to get an answer. On the other hand MDAC 2.7 cannot be installed on windows 95, but it will work on Windows 98 and all the other later windows versions, if you have at least IE 4.0.1 with SP 2 installed. Resolve all these issues before you write your program because they will come back and bite you.

I converted a path to a region, but when I check if any points that made up the path are in the region with the function PtInRegion it returns false. Does anyone know if you can include the points that made up the path into the region.

I'm using the BeginPath function followed by the LineTo function to draw lines that will make up the path. Then, I use the EndPath function. Finally, I convert the path to a region using PathToRegion. The problem is none of the points that I use to make up the path are detected by the function PtInRegion as being inside the region. I hope that makes sense.

Perhaps it considers that the pts aren't actually in the region. They just make up the boundary.

Hello everyone, i'm wondering why simple RasEnumConnections(..) doesn't work in WinXP platforms? I mean, when i 'run' a connection with program that checks every 500ms usin RasEnumConnections(), whenever i *click* on the icon in dial-up, programs gimme a good information that i want to connect somewhere. I am after testing this on XP's - well, i have to be onest : it does not work? Any ideas why ?

I display the bmps in the control and wanted to put in a file menu that will print the bmp out for me. Assuming thats doable.....I read about drawtext but I dont think thats going to work to print a bmp.....
