Seems like the problem might be going on right now, because I just tried to upvote someone's post and it told me that I needed to have a confirmed email address, even though my email address has been confirmed for years.

I just had the same problem with "unconfirmed email". I went to my profile to update things (no updating needed) and then when I clicked save my settings (just in case) it told me that my userid was in use and I should either create one with another name or login - I was already logged in!

Ups, I forgot to add the ??? in the title, what I really want to said, is Why Flash must die???
On those days I had see several articles like this:

and it's funny, specially when I see comments like:
"Flash is a closed, proprietary system on a web that deserves open standards. And it’s a resource-heavy battery suck."
When I believe that is exactly what makes it strong... being not open source means, it have one single standard, the company behind it makes it work the same from browser to browser...
so, you could be asking, what is my point? well if you have work with WebApps you already know how painful and time consuming is working with JS, each browsers implements their own standards, I think JS main issue is also what makes it "stronger" the opensource, due no real company/agency ensuring it as a unique standard, its open for multiple implementations. It's ridiculous how a simple JS will not work the same from browser to browser, and sometimes is just to show a single button!!! a button, so old that I don't understand how this code can be broken!
Well, I know Flash lost the war, but think on it, shouldn't we be finding something better than JS? something that makes us work just in a single code version without needed extra tools to make our JS Browser compatible?
You guys should see me each time I found the issue is only present in IE or Chrome... or some browser, each time I found one I jell I f*** hate JS, and my coworkers already know I found another compatibility issue.
(Developers shouldn't need to implement code like: if IE then this, if mozilla then this, is chrome then this.... it's just ridiculous)

Have you ever watched the movie / documentary, Atari: Game Over (amazon link to trailer)[^]?
It's extremely interesting, because as you watch you'll hear about Howard Scott Warshaw[^] creator of Yar's Revenge and numerous other Atari titles which moved him to the top of the game system heap.
However, as you watch, you'll see learn that he no longer does game development.
It's very interesting story about why. Very interesting about how beliefs come into the people's imagination and are furthered by journalists who tell only one angle of the story which is often incorrect or (as in this case) and straight up falsehood.
Check it out, as a developer you'll probably really like it. Very interesting history of Atari too.

OK, so I've been reading that windows environment can cause a lot of problems with eclipse. So I setup an ubuntu vm to try it in.
Unity was too slow though, so I'm installing xfce4 now.
When I turn my back on eclipse, there should be no doubt  I got to give it all the proper chances. One big deciding factor is, I don't want to change IDE's, and I wont' get a second subscription to jetbrains for my home pc.

Thank you, for years I was ashamed. First there was vi with its strange character sequences, took months to discover :q. Then emacs with its three finger key sequences, and weird macros. And finally my rapture was complete when I discovered eclipse. But now I can shout it to the world: eclipse is actually not bad.

I recall reading that you could still buy 2015 Pro without MSDN, but they do a good job of hiding the link to it in the Microsoft Store!
On this page they mention the standalone license, but there is no indication of where to buy it: Standalone[^]
They mention the standalone license at the very bottom of the page.
But the Community edition is just about the same and it's free.
The difficult we do right away...

I've just downloaded and installed VS 2015 Community Edition. The "typical" installation includes:
- Targeting of Windows ONLY
- C#/VB source files ONLY
C++, F#, targeting of mobile devices, etc. must all be installed using "custom" installation.
Given that the highlighted features for VS 2015 were support for the C++ Standard and multi-platform development, I would expect at the very least that the "typical" installation would do a better job of highlighting these features.
If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack.

The lesson I've learned decades ago is to always pick the Custom option in all installers.
Especially when I know the installer I'm about to run takes forever to complete no matter how fast the machine is.

Another good one is to never allow the installer to run the program after it's installed. Always check no and then run it yourself after the installer has exited.
