I first used networks in 1974 (ARPANet) though such primitive, by today's standards, tools such as Telnet. Then, in 1992, Mosaic appeared. By incorporating a GUI, it was a significant improvement over Telnet. In 1995, when I began systems programming on a Dell Alpha with NT 3.51 as its OS, I added Internet Explorer (IE) to my developer toolset.
So, since then, I have used IE in its various reincarnations.
Recently, I was building an animated GIF for a CP article. When I went to test it, I could not get the GIF to animate on IE. I tried on Firefox and the GIF animated. I did some research and found that animated GIFs do not appear to be supported in IE.
I wasted a significant amount of time trying to get IE to properly display the GIF. So I've decided that, in the future, my default browser will be Firefox. Of course this also influences my "upgrade" from Windows 7 to Windows 10. The compatibility tool indicates that Office 2003 is incompatible with Windows 10. Since I hate ribbons, I will not upgrade. So now, two major Microsoft products are causing heartburn. Maybe I should also look into a Unix derivative.
Anyway, for sure bye-bye IE.

I hated ribbons when they first came out... but they do grow on you, specially for certain applications. For example, in Matlab, the ribbons really work nicely. With that said though, I do run both Linux and Windows every day and I usually have different software packages that can do the same thing in case of compatibility issues (example: IE, Chrome, and FF on my Windows machine.... Chrome and FF on my Linux Mint).

In a good way or a bad way? I liked them from the getgo; but remember a coworker of mine saying about 6 mo after we had office 2007 pushed that "they were growing on him... ... ... like a fungus."

Why so old a version? Office 2010 doesn't have ribbons and is supported in Windows 10.

I bailed on IE many years ago (~2007) for speed issues - both initial launch and page view. Used Firefox for about a year then Google Chrome was released - been using it ever since.
On those rare occasions where I've used IE or Firefox in the last 6-7 years they just feel old and kludgy. Pretty sure they've both closed the gap in the speed department but Chrome "syncs" across all my devices (Windows PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Linux box) and none of the others do yet.
Contrary to popular belief, nobody owes you anything.

Have you un-ticked the "Play animations in web pages" option, and not installed any security updates for a while?
Assume that you clear the Play animations in webpages option on the Advanced tab in the Internet Options dialog box in Internet Explorer 11. When you view a website that contains animated GIF files, the animated GIF files are not displayed. A static image that is the first frame of the animated GIF files should be displayed.

I just opened this with IE. Maybe it's a setting or a version issue.

I don't know that it is a GIF. There are ways in JavaScript to do that. The site does not allow me to see the source.
