I've not actually seen anything mentioned about the Pro version. I'm just guessing.
My desktop is Win 7 Pro and either way I'll likely leave it that way. My laptops is Win 8.1 consumer version, so I'll probably take up 10 when it appears.

Yeah I'm running Win7 Pro on my desktop and I'll probably keep it as long as I can.
I've got Win10 on a VM and have been kicking the tires but see no reason to be in any hurry to upgrade.

Only guaranteed to be free for a year. Since it's to MS's benefit to get users on the newest version and retail sales of upgrade licenses are negligible compared to the rest of Windows revenue I'd be stunned if they make it a pay upgrade at some point in the future.

That's because MS wants all of its Enterprise customers on a Software Assurance site license instead of buying boxed copies and SA comes with upgrade/downgrade options baked in.

I'm wondering to. They did discounts with 8 as well; but I'm wondering if the free 7/7 to 10 upgrade program will be all we get. I'm hoping otherwise because one of my summer projects is going to be to refresh a few old Vista era budget boxes for uncle that have his kids are using again for school because it swapped out chomebooks for ipads this year and they need something with a keyboard for writing reports. The kids don't want Vista, my uncle doesn't want to buy 3 new boxes, and the idea of spending $100/box to put a newer OS on machines that were only $300-400 when new makes me cringe.

When they speak of "launch", doesn't it actually mean Windows 10 will RTM even earlier, maybe at the end of June, and GA (general availability) will be much later, say, at the end of October? I'm really curious what they're going to ship in the end given the fact that the current builds were rather buggy and haven't been so stable (at least for me). Maybe they repeat the Windows 8.1 scenario: RTM an unfinished/incomplete product and deliver the "final" bits via an update just before they hit GA (gives them another three months to iron out bugs).
I'm not so sure if I'll upgrade right away. The only compelling reason for users running Windows 8/8.1 on a non-touch device is the ability to run apps in floating windows now. Personally, I don't care a lot for all the app crap, so they could rather just give me a Windows without all that non-sense. I don't even ask for a Start menu, and the new one they came up with is ugly and can't compete with the Windows 7 one, at least not in its current incarnation, so the only reason to upgrade for everyone running Windows 7 would be for the better performance, but the UI still su~ks.
Further, what I don't like is that they made it really hard to create a local account during setup, which leaves a bad taste in my mouth because it means they're subtly forcing people the create an MS account to log-in. Guess that's the pay-off for going all-in on cloud first, mobile first. People who don't use that stuff are left in the rain.

For my recent 7 to 8.1 upgrade adventure (upgrading from a BIOS to UEFI system is a cluster elephant) I painlessly dodged the issue and was never bugged to create an MS account or convert my existing login. What I think happened was that I didn't have a network connection at that point in the install (accidentally pulled the cable loose) and it did an intelligent fallback to not even mentioning the option it couldn't setup.
