Kent Sharkey wrote: how we are to get to the situation where we build on top of the work of others
Well, if others did work that was capable of being built upon...
Kent Sharkey wrote: rather than redoing so much of it in a trivially different way.
If I were to re-implement something in a trivially different way, then shame on me. But the point of redoing prior work is for exactly the reason that it is not done in a trivially different way, but rather in a significantly different way, namely such that it can be built upon.

Nootropics—the name given to a broad class of so-called “cognitive-enhancing” drugs—are all the rage in Silicon Valley these days. Programmers like nootropics because they’re said to increase productivity and sharpen focus without the intensity or side effects of a prescription drug like Adderall or modafinil. Some users mix their own nootropics using big bins of powders, purchased off the Internet or in supplement stores. And some take pre-made “stacks” that are designed to produce specific effects.

Seems someone has just discovered a bug in Exception Filters. Quite weird that Exception Filters in some corner cases behave differently depending on whether the executing function is called directly or using reflection.

Adobe's security woes are well known, with major flaws plaguing Flash and other apps from the company. The software maker has now opted for an open approach to its problems, asking for users to begin searching for bugs in the software. I think people have been doing that for a while now
