And where's your report before you could post this thread?
You get an upvote for that.
Your time will come, if you let it be right.

That's pretty much the same as all the project planning stuff I had to learn. In the 5 companies I worked for in the last 13 years I've never drawn up any process or system flow charts or any Pert & Gantt charts. Every time you ask about those everybody just laughs at you.
My plan is to live forever ... so far so good

I do like flow charts... I'll give you that.

I have reported to reporting authority that you have reported that you do not like to report.

I translate your "Report" into requirement specs, design doco, use cases etc etc etc. On any reasonable size project there is a sh*t load of doco and planning to get through before you can start coding.
The idea that you can get an idea and immediately start coding only works for prototypes and toy (personal) projects.
Never underestimate the power of human stupidity

In your case there is perhaps not too much of a need for preparation as you have experience, however...
the number of times I have worked with more junior developers who jump into coding, before they have understood the goal of what they are doing, are countless.
So yes it's a pain but I don't see it as necessarily a bad thing for some people to have to show that they understand what they are about to do.
It also has the effect of covering your ass when the project manager/client states that they did not ask for a burning black unicorn but for a pink bejewelled unicorn. You can clearly point to the spec that they signed off on showing that they did ask for the unicorn from hades model.

Thanks for raising some good points. I do feel a little better about having to write these reports now.

Is this for real?
Are colleges finally giving students things to do that will be useful when they get out into the real world?!?
Unbelievable!
Keep writing those reports!

Just incase a potential employer runs into this thread, I'd just like to say that, I really don't mind writing reports (as a part of my job - within your organization).

Are dreams the sweat of thought, or thought the sweat of dreams ?
«I'm asked why doesn't C# implement feature X all the time. The answer's always the same: because no one ever designed, specified, implemented, tested, documented, shipped that feature. All six of those things are necessary to make a feature happen. They all cost huge amounts of time, effort and money.» Eric Lippert, Microsoft, 2009

Dreams are the sweet stuff of the 'morrow, upon which thought sweats and frets away the moment into regretful yesterday's.

I've always liked the idea that there are an infinite number of parallel universes, and your dreams are a window into what another version of you is up to in another universe!
Maybe it's just sweat though...

That's a scary thought, given some nightmares I had.

I always had the idea, that dreams come from your subconsciousness.
So some dreams are the sweat of thought, specifically when one goes to sleep with something to worry about.
Then again some dreams are random and open new thoughts in the morning. Maybe something you have forgotten i.e. plans for the future or an event from the past.
So, why not both ?
