Was wondering about hosting on Azure?
(any other suggestion? I like the automatic publish from VS though!  )
Is the or shared hosting having acceptable performance?
I might be the only user for a while....
And it's not very clear, do I have a database with the free / shared option?

I felt azure is expensive.
I have just tried a cloud vs from OVH and it is pretty good. [^]. Am thinking of moving my vs from 1and1 which is lower spec and higher price.

We have a dev/qa and production environment (VMs), 2 instances of azure blob storage, 2 instances of sql server. Each VM has 1 MVC app running and 1 webapi app running on each.
We're still in development / beta phase - and have expired our incubation period. Got a bill the other day - approx 500 for 1 month. Pretty high if you ask me. And everything is metered .... everything - including what is going up and down on the wire, cpu usage, you name it.
On the other hand - we have a site on Arvixe - it runs us at about 130 per year - and have unlimited storage, SQL server, IIS, etc....
If you know what you're doing with a web server and db server ... best to avoid the "popular" cloud services if you ask me.

I have a web site on Arvixe.
I don't use it much at all... But the few times I do, I always find it's a little slow! 
(I have the PersonalASP for $8/month, that might be why...)
Do you find it satisfactory for your commercial site?
Which plan do you use?

Well - my site itself is Personal Class Asp.net - but I have 1 client that is using their Business Class Asp.net.
Since shared hosting is in place - some servers (web and/or db) may be slower some of the time due to others sharing the same server.

Mind you - this site was not really built for mass public consumption per se - I created that site to keep developing web app(s) when I left RIM. To me - it was a big toy box to try out different things et al - which resulted in clients finding me. The back end has a lot more than what is publicly visible (back office). I will be the first to admit that the site could be optimized much more vis a vis what comes down the wire - but ... you know how it goes - clients end up taking your time where your projects can be sidelined for some periods of time.
I have noticed at times that it can be a bit slow due to quite a bit going on on those shared servers but overall I'm happy with what I have.
As far as a business site - you should be looking at their Business class. I have a client on that pkg - and it is faster.
I am using the full Kendo UI and a few other js/jquery libs also but do use minification et al.

I quite like Azure but I'd always go for a VM over a site - their SQL hosting is way too expensive while you can install SQL Express (and any other software you need) on a VM for free.
How do you know so much about swallows? Well, you have to know these things when you're a king, you know.

Not currently, but the contributors working on the project are working on things like that. currently it only supports some very basic things, like console IO.

I have a really large project whitch I had to dump after Mickeysoft decided to kill XNA when they were hyping their next great idea (Windows 8).
Well, at least there will be some hope, even if it means rebuilding the 3D engine and the UI. Both were quite a bit of work and I have lost my trust in Mickeysoft to provide an environment that exists long enough to go through all this again.

I just rebooted for updates on my new(er) win 8.1 laptop and a generic popup appeared that displayed an light blue Acorn icon and said, "updating: this won't take long".
I had no idea what it was so I googled and found out it was Pokki whatever that is.
A Bit Confusing
Next I went to uninstall it and it warned me: removing this will also uninstall "PC App Store".
Anyways, this type of stuff is confusing since you can't tell who (is this MS certified) has installed stuff on your computer.
Microsoft's Part
Seems like Microsoft could do a better job of communicating which items are theirs.
I'm still not 100% sure what I lose if I uninstall it, but from looking at http://pokki.com[^] it looks like you lose the Win 8 look and feel. I don't know. It's odd and confusing.

As far as I know, Pokki is a Chinese (I think) company that created a pseudo start menu for windows 8 that came preinstalled in some lenovo computer.
You should be able to uninstall it without issues.
