This tip describes the benefits of discarding a computer box to increase efficiency at home and at work

Introduction

The internet is a very interesting thing, and it will drive us for a long time to come. We all know the internet, we all know the basics, we all use internet on a daily basis, but at times, we neglect to look at the details, we lose our attention to details, that, when observed closely, could radically change the way we think and use the internet.

Imagine one day coming to work, and finding only a big, and maybe wide screen in front of you. This is the Internet. It is called the internet. You turn the screen on, and you are ready to use the internet, work, do your job, compute, write, draw with a pen, upload, download, watch movies, listen to songs, tweak that screen up, down, left, right, sideways. It is like your personal pet called Internet.

Of course after reading this, zillion things run through your mind, from newest technologies on the market, to Netflix, to i Pads, Apple computer of course, touch screens at some metro stations, drawing tablets, etc. It is all true, it is all there, it exists. All these things exist. But what is missing is the guts! The thing is, all those things and technologies mentioned above have processor, motherboard, control processing units, registers, more evolved registers, clocks, fans, lasers, laser eyes, wires, bolts, screws, plastic, batteries, and many many other hardware bits and pieces. All those parts come from different manufacturers, where they fight for better price, compete, bend the rules of economy, to assemble this one marvelous piece of engineering called personal or portable computer.

After all this is assembled, brought to your attention as a user or as an employee of some organization, you start using it, to find out that while you went on your coffee break, your fellow co worker pressed the big hardware SHUT DOWN button, just to bug you, or just to give you “heads up”, and to show you who is the boss. Or even worse, while using this marvelous piece of engineering, some antivirus software, and while you are very busy and engaged in something on your computer, right at that moment, decide to gather statistics on how frequently your computer shuts down, starts or restarts, or scan the whole system, including each bolt in your computer box that is beside you.

And, the best part is, and we saw it many times categorized as funny videos on the internet, how employees throw computer hardware because they got angry. You cannot throw software. That is why it is software !

Returning back to our daily entrance routine into the office and finding that one Internet and screen in front of us, and nothing more, just a screen, brings us to another question:”Where is the box ? Where is that box that has USB, CD, heats up sometimes, a fan, etc ..? Where is it ?”

It turns out, that, because of a smart engineering, we, as users, are left with slim, screen, where all the software needed for our job, including drawing Auto CAD complex drawings, are there for us to use.

I know that this issue has been brought up many many times, but the results are scary.

Big companies, for example, can provide local INTRANET solutions for all companies, where literally, company A, comes and installs INTRANET for company B. But on one big, big, condition! This condition is that no boxes are found around employees. It is not a choice between Apple computer and Microsoft. It is much bigger than that.

The benefits, and the time savings, outweigh the negatives by a lot !

Privacy issue is directly solved with this approach, because big companies have Technology Lawyers, and defend themselves and their clients interests with much bigger power than one person by himself. Let us think a little bit of data theft. Let's take two scenarios, one is when your data is stolen on your personal PC or Apple, where you are the boss with that big box sitting around you that I mentioned before, and another scenario is when that same data is stolen from a company where you are an integral and respected client. Who will defend your rights better ? It is common sense to drop the box out of the way. We can say “we lost it, we lost that computer box”, in case someone is so attached to it. But we found something new ! We found efficiency at work, thus productivity. We found superb computer and internet speed while enjoying our free time and using the internet.

To the cloud? I don’t think so. It has nothing to do with Cloud Hosting. It has more to do with efficiency. Apple’s drop box is a good cloud based solution. So are many other cloud solutions that exist there, from all the cloud hosting companies. But can I use the cloud if my CPU fan malfunctions ? Can I use the cloud if my processor is a bit unhealthy and running on a single thread ? Can I use the cloud if my computer fan overheats? Can I use the cloud if my Graphics Card is full of dust ? The answer is no.

The solution is dropping the box completely, where internet speed is superb, no computer service interruptions, no slow downs, only efficiency and thus productivity is found.

Thank you.

Hello mouse, I agree. I love Google, I am in love with Google ! And to answer your question, yes, I trust the bigger companies with my private data more than handling it myself. This is solved for me. And you mentioned also, that I will still need to maintain my access devices, weather with SaaS or not. That is the whole point. The user will have to forever eternally forget about maintaining his access device, forever ! Please consider this, a 78 year old grandmother, in some distant country, wants to chat to her family in my country, see them each day, say hi to them etc . . . Does she needs to maintain her access device ? No ! Does she need to know about access device or SaaS ? I do not know Smile | :) . But probably also no. All that she needs to have is her son, send her a screen, a terminal. She turns it on, and SaaS is there for her .

I agree regarding SaaS, but i got a feeling there is still something missing here. You have also touched a different sector of the industry which deals with User Customization, and offering customizable solutions for clients, with SaaS or with custom cloud built solutions. But why it is not so widespread, if it is very handy, clear, and affordable ? Why not everybody knows about this? I doubt that marketing has anything to do with it, at all.

Please consider this. Countries nowadays in 2014, if they receive hardware by mail, Fedex, or DHL, need a direct conscent and a signature from the sender regarding all the details of this hardware, including senders signature, his address, his name. Stay with me for a while please. Now consider this Grandma, and to whom I will be sending the screen. Wouldn't all parties win, if this "access device", as you mentioned, is nothing but a screen, whatever dimensions one chooses, and an Internet outlet ? The Grandma receives the Screen, she plugs the internet in, turns the Screen on, and her son says Hi !?

To be honest with you, I think all these things need, and really need to happen at once. This is regarding the cost of data storage and AWS. Ofcourse , as a separate service at AWS, and for people who do understand something in this, they will start thinking and comparing, which is better, a physical storage or AWS, and the cost of everything. But what if you tell them that there is no need to compare anything? A slim screen, with internet outlet, 5 Terrabytes of data storage as a beginning, and forget the processing memory because the ( Monster in the Back room somewhere will handle all this). And of-course SaaS !

Also, the role of a Monster Guru. Monster Guru will have to handle the back room. He or She, will be responsible for backup, Service Reliability, with no interruptions in the Internet Network, changing ISP's, if he or she decides, handling all software needs for the clients, including managing and maintaining software from Google, Microsoft, Apple, or IBM, Graphic Companies Software, and whatever software the client needs.

This will also encourage anti virus companies to shift more towards hardware firewalls, rather than software firewalls, which in turn will increase users security on the internet.

As far as Man in The Middle attacks on Software streams, which may occur when the data is sent from one country to another, in our scenario here, the Monster in The Back Room will have to pretty much worry about this too ! Big time ! He may even endulge his users, who only have to worry about screen and turning it on, by offering such biometric encryption and authentication techniques that the original stream of data will be untouched ! Sound and safe.

What do you think? Is it a good idea ?
