Being an ex-Brit, I'm amazed at how most Canadians often seem obsessed by all things British. My son quickly learned that his English accent was a magnet for the ladies! I was once asked by a woman in a coffee shop to place her order so that she could hear me speak (she didn't pay for my coffee though!)
A surprising number of Canadians thought that I should be devastated over Diana's death and excited beyond belief at Kate's baby. I was underwhelmed by both and loved Private Eye's (a British satirical magazine) front page "Woman Gives Birth".

I've had Christian Graus and Chris Maunder tell me that their Australian accents are a hit with people in the States and Canada, but most times I've been somewhere with Christian, they mistook him for a Brit. Most people can't tell the accents apart.

Morons? Really?
My father was from West London and we moved to East London. I can hear the differences between the two accents. I can also tell an Aussie from a Cockney and an Afikaaner, but I'm tuned in to the accents.
I'm willing to bet that not many people from outside London could tell and East Londoner from a West Londoner. There are similarities in London, Aussie and South African accents, especially if you're not tuned in and the accent isn't that strong.
How many Aussies could distinguish between someone from Maine and someone from B.C.?
