Got a call this morning from an Indian recruiter for a local contract position. (Ironically, I'd actually interviewed at the same company for a full time position several months ago, but this apparently was with a technical customer worked hand-in-hand with them.) I told the recruiter I didn't do embedded Linux. He said that only my Qt and C++ experience mattered. He was clueless so I told him to submit my resume and I'd figure out what the real requirements were in the interview.

Twenty minutes later, the recruiter's boss calls--another Indian, though more understandable. He tells me that the client saw my resume and will interview if I guarantee I'll accept the contract if offered. I said, no. His reply; "You misunderstand, we've had people interview, accept and then back out." I replied that it's a contract, which means either side can cancel it at any time and I won't accept anything until I know a lot more about the job. He started arguing with me. I told him I was no longer interested and hung up.

He called back and started arguing with me again. I told him to never call me again and hung up.

This is not the first time I've had Indian recruiters ask me to make a guarantee. What is that all about? Second, only a handful of eastern US recruiters are as aggressive and none refuse to listen or are as argumentative as Indian recruiters. Then there is another Indian recruiter who called this morning and I honestly didn't understand anything he was saying, so I told him to email me and hung up. He never sent an email.

EDIT: Oh. My. God. The recruiter just sent me an email saying we had a misunderstanding and could we go forward? I told him to f*** off.

EDIT 2: Just got a call from another Indian recruitment firm for the same position! I asked him about the Embedded Linux requirement--he said it didn't matter. Wonder what the client thinks about that. I asked him what the pay rate was. He then drops the bomb shell that I'd actually be working for the original recruitment company and that he was doing them a favor.

EDIT 3: Got an email from yet another recruiter for the same position. Funny thing, though, is that the recruiter used reply which included the email chain with the original requirements list and pay rate limits.

On top of all this, the client is actually an Indian technology consulting company. This is absurd.
