Unless you happen to be one of the 5k! A 100% chance of being without a job is not fun for anyone and glossing over it with the 'small percentage' argument is disingenuous at best, cruelly cynical at worst!

I'm not saying it is fun, or it is good, just it is expected. I've seen much worse cases (percentage wise) with people I worked with.

A good thing. The only company that is can survive despite economic failure and over staffing is Government Inc, the others need to adapt.

I heard Microsoft wants to change their corporate culture and the easiet way to do that is to get rid of a bunch of workers to scare the rest into changing their ways.
It will work for a while, but the old culture will reassert itself.
Been there, done that, got the T-shirt.

Expected post-merge layoffs, it's really bad but, unfortunately, that's the way of doing business; in the bright side, they may try to join the Jolla team and improve their OS.

Gads! Dr. Demento! That's where I first heard most of his stuff, though I have to admit that one of my teachers was rather savvy about ecology and played "Pollution" for us in class - probably 7th grade or so. I didn't catch the name, but never forgot the song or the voice. When Dr. D played them on his show every Sunday night, I sat in rapt appreciation of the sheer genius of the performer. Good times...
