When I was young (around 6 or 7 years old) I thought that "Seldom" was a swear word.
All because of a record that was free with Weatabix.
It was a record of Western songs - "She'll be comin' 'round the mountain" and that sort of thing.
One song was "Home on the range"
Where a lyric is "Where seldom is heard a discouraging word"
I asked my mother what "discouraging" meant - and, having been asked out of context, she tried to explain what it meant.
So I thought the song was saying that out on the range they discouraged people to use the word "Seldom" - I assumed because it was a 'rude' word - like 'bloody' etc.
I was astonished whenever people used the word from then on "It seldom rains in the desert" was one that springs to mind!
Don't know what prompted the memory - but thought I would share as I'm having a remarkably frustrating day and am using any excuse to procrastinate.

When I was young my dad would often call people a Grade A Prat (or some similar last word).
I was well into adulthood before I realised it wasn't Grey Day Prat.
Never did understand why it was supposed to amplify the insult.

Growing up in Arizona in the 60s we had to go 40 or so miles to the nearest lake to have fun at the lake but then this[^] happened while I was across the big pond. Imagine my surprise when I returned and my brother asked me if I wanted to go surfing.

What is this "60s" of which you speak? Personally I don't recall anything before 1970 (when my kid sister was born).

Was more of a rhetoric questions. Yes, they load fast, but they have priority over the real video, which kind of sucks.
