I must have had a different childhood, taking an unauthorised day off school would have resulted in fairly serious (for that age anyway) repercussions from my school and parents. And surely it's a guarantee to get caught, schools take registers don't they?

Depends how cunning you are, how good at faking letters or phone calls from parents, how good at conning your parents into leaving you home alone (the Ferris), how good you are at sneaking out of school again after registration.

The freedom that come with being a grown up can be great, if you know how to use it. It seems that almost no one does.
You can basically do whatever the hell you want, as long as you don't exceed your budget. Here, I'll help you:
- eat ice cream every day.
- don't finish dinner but have dessert anyway. (or just skip dinner)
- in fact, don't skip dinner: you're eating what you want anyway.
- stay up late.
- don't wake up until lunch. (or later!)
- play video games all day. (and night)
- eat and go swimming right after. (the cramps are a myth)
- run indoors.
- run downhill.
- run anywhere. You're an adult, most people assume you have a good reason for running and don't interfere. protip: don't have a good reason.
- or never run, because lazy.
- do whatever. The only rule is to avoid negative consequences.
And none of that "b-but responsible!" crap. The best thing about being a grown up is that other peoples' ideas about what being grown up means are irrelevant.

Probably you will have seen my last post about a dying hdd...
I've managed to recover all the information in a HDD that was having strange behavior:
When I tried to access it the computer become hang for several seconds, sometimes I was able to continue working with the HDD and sometimes the HDD disappeared from "My Computer".
Now that I've got the replacement HDD and I've passed all the information to the new one, the old one is working as expected... I've checked it using chkdsk and no errors have been found, now I'm formatting it using NTFS (slow) and everything seems to go fine...
Is there any way to diagnose it properly?
Now it looks it works...

Thank you Dave, at the end I did not had time to check all that information and I was lucky enough to be able to recover all the information from that possibly dying hdd... now after installing a new one it looks like everything goes faster and it looks like that there are no problems at all...
When I'll get enough time I'll use your and others suggestions to check that HDD and who knows if I'll be able to use it again somewhere...

The secondary hdd in my main desktop workstation started making weird noises every now and then when I would access it...single 'click', then I could hear it spin up. I bought a new drive and figured I would just wait until the other one gave out before replacing it. That was over a year ago and it is still working fine. 
Any chance it could be one of those 'green' drives that spin down to save power?

Don't know kmoorevs, at the end I've replaced it and (when I'll have time to do it) I will check that drive to ensure it will be able to continue working... at least I've been able to recover all the data inside!

How did you plug in the new HDD, using new cables or the same ones? Assuming you didn't replace anything else...
If I had to guess, I'd wager one of the cables (power or data) came loose and you reseated them for both drives when installing the new hard drive.

Who knows Irina, I've replaced it using a new HDD and it now works, I'll use all the suggestions of other members recommending different tools to check the real status of the "buggy" hdd... meanwhile I've recovered all the information and working with a new one.

I'll check that "buggy" HDD when I'll have time to do it... but meanwhile I'm on the road again with the new one and all the data fully recovered...

Sorry Michael, I've tested the tool of the same brand of the HDD with no results, everything was fine there... which was strange as the computer went freeze once each 5 minutes...
At the end I changed the HDD and I plan to re-use that set of tools and others that have been recommended to check the HDD status, I was terribly worried about the data and to avoid the fact to reinstall every single virtual machine that I had there, but at the end I've got it working without issues...
Thank you for your suggestions. And sorry for not having said anything before, I've been terribly busy with our job those days.

you already have diagnosed it as a dodgy HDD - throw it in the bin so you're not tempted to use it, have it stuff up and then wonder why you used it when you knew it it was dodgier than Chris attempting to code.
Its like those people who keep pens they know don't work and then look surprised when they go to use it and it wont work - only more expensive and annoying.

Today, to mark 10 years, Wizz Air [here[^]] are offering two for the price of one on all tickets until midnight.
But wait!
Last week we looked at going over to BP for a weekend in June, total cost £220, and decided that was a no then.
So I looked just now, same flights are now £180. What they've done is increase the flight price for one ticket to cover the cost of the single free ticket, where you still pay fees. 
Rather a good weeze, what ho!
