I like it better than the first one.
Along with Antimatter and Dark Matter they've discovered the existence of Doesn't Matter which appears to have no effect on the universe whatsoever!

This is why I always see the movie first and then read the book . Invariably those who read the book first criticise the film, but us who let all of you filter out the crap for us get to enjoy it twice . First a good film and then an even better book .

I wasn't disappointed at all. I wish he had put in more and made it a septology. I certainly wish he had done that with LOTR where there was enough material for a dozen movies!
Peter Jackson needed to add more to the story to make it stretch to be a trilogy while trimming about long, boring stretches such as travelling which work fine in a book but drag in a movie (the same in LOTR). I think he added content that supported the main thrust of the story. Having an extra main character (the female elf warrior who's name escapes me at the moment) had worried me but he fitted her seamlessly and usefully into the story and thereby kept all the people who would otherwise complain that it was an all male main cast mollified - a bit.
Perhaps he can do the Silmarillion next and keep us Middle-Earth fans happy a little longer. ...or perhaps take some more of the stuff that Christopher Tolkien is producing and use that material for more movies - more power to him.

I have no problem to extend it, but not with stories of Peter Jackson, but of Tolkien. Tolkien created an almost full history with extreme details - no need to invent things never happened!

Actually I agree with you. Do you know how much is taken from Tolkien's notes and abandoned story segments and how much was directly made up without JRRT influence?

The Tauriel-Kili story with all the orc hunting of Legolas and Tauriel is a complete made-up. It also changes the real story where Fili and Kili are between the company actually go to the mountain...\
The experience of the dwarves to try and kill Smaug by drowning in melted gold is made-up.
The capture of Gandalf is made-up.
I missing the part how Gandalf really lerns about Thorins father and his ring, and how this reveals him the nature of the 'necromancer' from Dol Goldur...

Personally I thought the first movie was awesome. Only the singing reminded me a bit of Disney... Please keep the singing for Disney movies!
I liked the second part. But more like a "that was fun to watch" and not like a "that's one of the best and most impressive movies ever!". That last bit comes to mind when watching the original trilogy.

It's funny, but I liked the sing a lot. As this is really a song from the book it was nice the hear it with music. I also loved that the story went not only with action but also showing some of the background of the story...

I know the singing is from the book. I didn't like it in the book either (kind of hard to sing it when you don't know the melody...).
Part two really did have a lot of action. It's what I liked and disliked about it.
I'm really curious about part three! I'm hoping it won't be like The Return Of The King... After Frodo throws the ring in the volcano and you think allright that's it the movie goes on for another 30 minutes! And that's after you already watched for three hours...

The book is worse for that, Jackson cut a whole segment that, imo, never really worked.

I stopped reading in The Two Towers. Not that I disliked the book, I'm just not much of a reader (unless it's study related).

I also watched that recently, and I'm disappointed too.
I'm not very happy with the alterations of the story or with the inclusion of so much content from the appendices, but the part that really annoys me is the over-the-top attempts to impress the viewer with "spectacular" combat scenes. It's especially jarring to see the elves surfing on their enemies (both the spiders and the orcs) and the dwarfs having perfect yet improvised teamwork while confined to barrels in a river. In moderation, such things would be OK, but this trilogy is really overdoing it.
What is this talk of release? I do not release software. My software escapes leaving a bloody trail of designers and quality assurance people in its wake.
