perhaps, but when you're looking at an inert object that is black it's because it's absorbing all (or most) available photons.
If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.-John Q. The object might be but your eye isn't - since the object absorbed them all!

That exactly why the object is black. Your eye isn't getting any photons from the object because they've all been absorbed! Hence your eye sees a "hole" of sorts -- black.

Sorry Tim, I can't be sympathetic. I think all organized (and disorganized) religions are equally absurd. I guess that makes me a godless heathen. However, I have neither the interest nor the energy to provoke those of a particular religious bent, except maybe the "religion of peace". If you're not familiar with that reference, it's not worthy of discussion.
In other news, I farted a few times this morning.

And that's the point: You have your views, but you aren't slamming them down anyone else's throats nor mocking anyone for having their own views. It's called being respectful.
And thanks for the news. We were all on tenterhooks on that one.
cheers

Idiots of the various religious persuasions (including atheists) are so busy bashing each other that I feel no need to add to the din. That's not respect - it's more like total indifference. Remember that Quran article about 12 years or so back where the guy insulted himself to save me the trouble? THAT was a laugh riot.

I think you missed my point. Chris said it was about being respectful and then you immediately called them idiots.

I think you missed John's point. He didn't agree with Chris that he was being respectful, and went on to say that he was being indifferent.
Indifferent does not mean respectful. It means indifferent.

I have always wondered who has the best orgies, pagans or heathens. Because I would then classify myself accordingly.
By the way, my comment about pagan orgies somewhere else got downvoted twice.

I'm a Christian.
My answer to your question would be 'YES'.
I believe God has already won this thing so I don't spend much time worrying about meaningless posts on a forum.
To me atheism is like those Japanese soldiers who held their posts for 30 years after the war was over.
You can respect those guys for their dedication but they're no threat to the reality of things.

Unless you lived on Lubang Island.
Onoda drew on his training in guerilla warfare to kill as many as 30 people[^] whom he mistakenly believed to be enemy soldiers.

Again, Onoda was not a threat to the ultimate reality of the situation.
My guess is when he was informed of the truth he felt worse than anyone.
As always, nobody suffered more than he did.
From the article:
Onoda wept uncontrollably as he agreed to lay down his perfectly serviceable rifle.
He was later pardoned for the killings by the then Philippine president, Ferdinand Marcos. In his formal surrender to Marcos, Onoda wore his 30-year-old imperial army uniform, cap and sword, all of which were in good condition.
I see our time here ending in much the same way.

The Japanese soldier was living in an alternate reality.
He hurt other people, but he hurt himself most of all.
To me that is an important reason to not be offended by atheists (especially on message boards).
I believe they are wrong but I suffer the least from any delusions they may harbor.
That is insulting to some here(1) but it is the reason why I feel no need to harass/shame/berate even the most offensive atheist. I get peace of mind out of the deal and they get freedom of speech. I think it works out well for both of us.
