That seems odd - I'd imagine that recording a video of another driver is at least as distracting as talking to someone.

Agreed, just pointing out the "law".

In some locations, "driving while distracted" is enough to get the citation.

Here in Florida they are TRYING to pass a law prohibiting texting and driving. But everyone here drives with one hand on the wheel and the other on their ear.

Exactly!
Here in AZ, the left lane is designated the "Passing" lane; if you're not passing, you are required to stay out of it, or at least move over when someone wants to pass. I've never seen anyone enforce it, but that's the law. It also happens to be common courtesy and respect for other drivers, good manners, decency and the American Way, all of which are nearly extinct.

What about passing cars on the right? In (most?) European countries, it's about the most illegal thing you can do - I never really understood why, but then again, I got my license here in the states many, many moons ago.

I can't see it here at work but if it is the same video I saw yesterday then it looks as if the recording driver, was actively blocking the left lane (for long enough to get out a camera) and accelerated to block the truck to pass. Also, the truck wasn't tailgating in the video (if this is the same one)
|
|
|
|

Sounds like the same video. I was thinking that too -- I don't consider it tailgating if I can still see the headlights of the guy behind me! Yeah, they might be too close, but I've experienced *real* tailgaters. This didn't qualify.

Missed that, wrong side of the road for me, I would normally flash the hih beams to get the idiots attention, didn't see that here.

That looks like a 4 lane highway. Should the driver who filmed this little episode have been in the righ-hand land to allow the tail-gater to pass?
Just sayin'

Absolutely. No excuse for her behavior, and she should have been charged with Obstructing Traffic, Negligence, and Inciting To Riot. Not to mention that she deserves to be summarily shot and pushed into a ditch, her husband impaled on a stick, and her children sold into slavery. Dang scofflaws!

Bah! The slow moving a$$hole had no right to be in the left lane to begin with. The wrong driver had the accident.

I agree she should have let the idiot pass, but I don't think either really deserved to have an accident. However, this does not appear to be a "freeway" so I don't think the "left-hand passing lane" ethic applies.

It always applies, freeway or not, if there's more than one lane going the same direction.

In cities and high traffic areas, I think it's prudent to allow people a little slack. It doesn't change the law, but courtesy require a little patience.

I've pondered roag rage - I've gotten angry, annoyed and seen others annoyed at me. The fact is, we would never behave this way in a crowded hallway at work. We would say, "Excuse me..." and the other person would say, "oh, of course..." and allow us to go by.
What happens to us when we get in a car?
My fil insists it's his "right" to drive 55 in the left lane. and he's the most God fearing, well mannered man I know, but seriously... blocking the left lane in Atlanta?

lol, apparently quite some time. He drives a Honda Insight. Had to go look it up to make sure - itty-bitty.
And he will argue the point that the speed limit is 55. Never mind the semi thundering behind him that really doesn't want to constantly adjust speed to keep from squashing him. The guy is anally squared away - to an extreme... but he will not concede physics. On family road trips, I have told him, lead, follow or get out of the way... We're both men and neither need directions.
