Just completed reading the novel "Killing floor" from Lee child. Now I see books are more interesting than the actual movies with stunts, visual effects, etc when it comes to ACTION THRILLERS. For instance, there is a whole luxury of imagination of your own when it comes to a fight, chasing, the land mass, etc unlike the movies where you have to live with what is shown whether you like it or not.
As this is only my first book on this genre I am not sure if everyone feels the same way as I do.

When you finish a book and watch the movie straight away, wont you feel like you are watching a short trailer of 2 hours? Atleast I badly felt it when I watched the movie "Night train to lisbon" after finishing the book. So basically it should be one or the other (atleast for me), it can't be both. You will loose the interest on the one that comes second. So the ultimate question is which one do you prefer doing it first?

Provided it's not the "book of the movie" that's fine.
But generally speaking, "movie of the book"s tend to disappoint as well, if you read the book first. Anything by Dan Brown excepted, of course.

They were. But...they cut out a heck of a lot to get it in there! Even the first HP book lost a lot of detail to make the movie. The later ones were eviscerated!

Did you ever watch the movie first? You might feel the movie is too long until you read the book first only to see the movie as the trailer of the book. Don't you see it as just a mind set?

Yes, but the purpose is not the same ! If you assume that the movie has to render everything from within the book, then every movie would last 20h !
I see them as two different representations of the same story, and both are enjoyable to me.

That is why I use to wonder why dont they do tv series on good novels........there is high a chance we get the similar output. (Atleast I am not aware of any at this point of time).

Sadly I don't have the attention span to read a book, have attempted many many times reading novels but always end up failing. But give me a technical reference book and I have no problem reading them.
Every day, thousands of innocent plants are killed by vegetarians.

You know what, I would have described myself the same way if asked last year same time. With in last 6 months I completed about 5 books. Believe me, if you are able to finish one book, it is highly likely that you may end up as a book freak. I am telling from my experience.

(There are probably less than 2000 books in this house: I threw out 5000 or so when we moved - couldn't even give 'em away  )

The British Heart Foundation would have taken them, provided they were in halfway decent nick.

Tried the Red Cross, local hospitals, charity shops, even book shops. Nobody interested regardless of condition. Enough to make you cry...

In my city (town, really), the library started to put surplus books in the train station to take and keep. This lasted until their book collection was severely culled by Hurricane Sandy.
Once we got back home, we sorted through our personal book-mountain and brought hundreds to the station, a few bag-fulls at a time*. Not the same as donating to charity, but pretty much all of them were scarfed up. This included, for those interested, obsolete computer books and chemistry and physics books from coursed I taught (my own books, naturally, were kept). Very few lasted more than a few days.
Any way you can do this sort of thing? It could even start a trend.
* 10-20 books/bag
