Got a potential contract there for a few months, any one got any experience of the place, recomendations, things to do, see, avoid?

Don´t know Kortrijk myself, but there are many students there, so I think the atmosphere will be nice. It´s very close to the French border.
Things to see, you could go to the coast, Gent en Bruge. I would definitely recommend to visit Ypres (Ieper) (Minne gate) and the trenches of World War I.
South from Kortrijk is a more open area (fields, forests) where you can go walking.
Hope this helps.

Pics look pretty, plus a uni town sounds good, should be good for lively bars. I speak French and a bit of Flemish, but I guess most speak English there, most Flemish do, very well.
Its tempting, very tempting, and it feels like time for a change.

Don't forget to bring a picnic lunch.
The trenches of WW1 would not be on my list of things to see for me as my Great Uncle Felix died in a gas attack. I keep a picture of him in my home. It was taken in 1914 before he was in the military. Going to the trenches would definitely not be on my agenda.

I went to a couple of forts on the Maginot line when i was in Luxembourg, they are interesting.
Most interesting places I have been to were a concentration camp in Belgium, Breendonk, deeply deeply disturbing, and sickening, and Point Alpha, US base on the old East German border, very modern, and recently linhabited, and to see the chunk of iron curatin in the field just in front, a moving experience.

Bastogne is also pretty impressive

Went past it a few times, what is there to look at? I saw the military museum at Etternach I think it is, where Patton died. That was impressive.

Bastogne was surrounded for a few months by the Germans. The allies held out during an extreme cold winter (-20 degrees celcius) with a limited supply of ammo and food. The museum there explains it in detail and you can walk the surrounding area. It was one of the most intense and heaviest battle scenes of the entire war apparently.
