The keyword is "tend". I liked that statement (also found in this thread, btw.), so I put it in my sig. Please note that I did not state that gotos are always bad, only that there are always alternatives. I agree that such an alternative may only be "equivalent", not better, depending on how you measure "goodness" of the code.

As I said in another post: a decent C++ compiler will translate most control statements into gotos anyway, and optimize them in ways you may not even have thought of when considering your variant of goto coding. Therefore there is likely no performance benefit, and you actually may risk performance penalties by being more explicit about how exactly you like to use and place your gotos.

I think we agree on pretty much everything else anyway. thanks for your thoughtful responses.
