Unless the browser developers provided a whole bunch of low level hooks into their execution engines (can you say huge new attack surface); I'm not sure how you're expecting the VS team to be able to debug javascript running inside the browser.

Sorry, not buying that one.
You can debug Firefox with Firebug.
You can't debug Microsoft Internet Explorer with Microsoft Visual Studio.

Firebug lives inside Firefox. (Chrome's debug tools live inside Chrome, etc). Opening up that level of access to the guts to an external application would bring back the whole how do we secure the system when allowing the browser it to run things that have unfettered access to the rest of the system problem again. That's no less insane now than it was 15 years ago when the lunatics in Redmond were pushing activeX in the browser.

It's not that I don't understand what you're saying conceptually, just that both Firefox and Chrome have a solution. Microsoft, which owns both IE and VS, doesn't.
I don't recall hearing much of a public outcry calling Firefox and Chrome evil for implementing thier solutions. The fact that Microsoft hasn't come up with an acceptable one of their own is just weak.

IE does have developer tools. Like Chrome and Firefox they're built into the browser. In addition to the security benefits from not opening the browser wide to the rest of the OS, doing it in the browser means that devs can debug in IE using any webstack not just MS's.
Creating a special deeply embedded version of IE as part of VS might make things a bit easier; but it would only be a supplement to existing tools and IMO the VS team has other much more useful things that they could work on instead.

What you're saying makes sense, I just miss high quality, integrated development tools. In other words, I miss Borland.

Yeah you're right, I'm sure they could do a bit better on a lot of things. You can still debug on IE and Chrome without extensions though. Load up your page and then open your source files from the dev tool window, put a breakpoint where you want it.

Yep, it sucks that you can't do that from VS. I just use the old IE F12 and set breakpoints there. At least you can see what is going on, or verify that events are firing...which is one of my gripes with IE10 at the moment.

Bloody stuff, no sooner do I clean it then more appears.
How's a man of leisure supposed to cruise the intarwebs when there's all this frogging great mould on the ceiling? Mrs Wife says I have to clean the bathroom ceiling, again, even though it is not me who has 2 hour showers with the temperature on full and leaves the bathroom door closed.
Oh no, but it's bally muggins here who has to clear up the mess.

So I get a call from a colleague in a different room.
No interwebs and no emails.
Nor does his elf have access.
I and others do, so something is amiss.
We have the modem, connected to an 8 way switch, one of which goes to the first office I mentioned, and into a 2 way switch to run colleague and elf computers.
I swapped out the 2 way first, no joy, then swapped out switched wires at the 8 way, still not working.
Ran a line test down and discovered the cable is crook.
Do down to the basement I go and follow the line until I see the problem.
A gnawed wire.
The rats have been at it and now I need to relay the cable.
Sh*tty job, down in a dark subterranean hell hole with rats and dirt, fiddling with odd bits and bobs in the hope of making people happy.
(Sounds like a Chinese sweatshop)
Anyway, just been out and bought 40m of Armoured Cat 5.
How cheap is that? £1.70 a metre!
I remember this being really expensive stuff a few years ago.
(Perhaps those Chinese sweat shops are a good thing?)
Anyway, my afternoon will be mostly dirty and frustrating.
BTW, I HATE rats.
