Basically no.

To do anything on another computer the other computer must be running an application and you must communicate with that application.

For example, per the other response, if you "share" a file\directory then the OS itself (on each machine) is using a mechanism to create the appearance the file is in both places.

Conversely you could log in to another, again via something running on that machine and run an editor on that machine (which how you logged in is a feature that could be provided) and then you could edit it.
