This is great. I also had some cases when a little motivated explanation or friendly warning makes a member play fairly, but it rarely affect heavy abusers or cheaters.
And thank you for answering my question.
Do you have an opinion on my suggestion to provide notifications on member reports to the member being reported?

After a discussion with Sean this morning we've decided to reduce the number of votes needed to close an item in Quick Answers. Previously it required 5 votes. It now requires only 3.
As always, let's help those who are having trouble framing their question properly by editing them, and lets help our technical experts sort the wheat from the chaff by closeing those questions that simply aren't phrased in a way that makes it possible to answer.

The latest revision of Take MVC to the Next Level in .Net[^] is currently in the approval queue.
If you look in the comments, a member already questioned whether this is a legitimate article or if it should be considered spam.
I have not reported it at this point. What do you think?

Conversely I think that one is OK. It's clear the article is by and on belhalf of a company. There's useful technical detail in there, everything is CPOL licensed and it's clear that the product behind this is Open Source so they don't appear on the surface at least to be trying to sell anything.
This comes down to Code Project policy as to how this is seen but I wouldn't want it to be impossible for an article to be written linking to OSS code just because that code was developed by a company that also does commercial stuff. I would have to withdraw my articles in that case as well.

I don't disagree with you, I think I even agree  . The article and CodePlex project look solid (I might even try out that plugin), but I took the question to this forum because the roads lead back to a retail version and I am always trying get better at making a decision on this very issue.
BTW, I support the way the profile posting this article is completely open about it representing the company. My alarm bells go off when such a trail is hidden, but reveals itself once you dig into it.

Article currently up for approval CSS3 isn't supported by all old Browsers[^].
It's small but reasonably done and includes useful info so I would approve except that it is also a thinly disguised advert for this product[^] which seems to be a Sencha side project. Is this considered fronting for a commercial product because it's Sencha and they should be paying for the advert or OK because this particular tool seems to be a free download/side project and the article is otherwise fine?
Too tough a call for me.

This article seems to have had a slight change of name to CSS3 is not working in IE7 & IE8[^] and just came into the queue again. I ended up tagging it as spam, but after taking a closer look at the website, I think I might have made a mistake...
I would also like to hear what you guys think.
BTW, the formatting of the article is horrible on my mobile IE10.

Here is what happened: I reported this person for rude aggressive reaction to my (polite) comment. But my commend was misplaced; that was purely my fault. I wanted to warn another person for abuse on one of his question pages, but my mistake was to reply with my warning comment to a wrong post, a post of a person who received a fake answer, not the author of it. Such things sometimes happened, and I was always able to fix my mistake, but this time it was already too late 
Even though OP's reaction was rude and kind of unacceptable, I did not want to ban this person, because it was actually my fault. I reported this person on the abuse forum, and some member(s) immediately reported OP effectively banning the account. Probably reporting members trusted me and did not understand that my warning was wrong; and OP's rudeness was apparent.
Nevertheless, I don't think OP deserved banning of the account. He/she reported me, too, and told me many bad words, but any person can sometime loose control, when facing baseless accusations. I would ask to restore the OP's account. I would also want a change to explain this person my mistake.
Please help me to fix my mistakes if possible. Sorry about that.

Finally! Thank you very much for restoring the account of EuphorialXTC.
I finally found the ends: this person was actually innocent, I really misplaced my comment with the warning, and this person has over-reacted. It's OK, explainable—
I used his last comment to reply and brought my apologies.
I've done some research and found the account of the real "bad guy" I wanted to warn in first place (at that moment, it does not matter who it was, I removed another fake answer from the page in question, but I finally found the account and posted the same warning. The abuse of this "bad guy" was not that bad to report it on the abuse forum, I just removed fake answers and hope he will take my warning into account.
Unfortunately, the problem is that during last days I detected a good number of much heavier abusers, who, in particular, self-accept fake answers intentionally, and some even plagiarize the answers to their own questions and later post those answers as their own, or try to trick readers intentionally in other ways. It happened before, but not it looks like a sad trend. I'm going to bring the list to the abuse watch forum…

I am sure there is an answer somewhere to this but I cannot find it..
In a recent case, my rather benign message that was in response to comments that contained, in my opinion, at least disparaging, and possibly abusive content just disappeared (shows as "deleted"). Is it because certain users are allowed to delete other users comments? And if so, how can a mere mortal like me find out what actually happened? Here is this particular example:

Well since I am ranting now at full throttle, here is some more on similar matters:
I read only a small number of posts, but a pattern is clear with a number of prolific posters (person in the link by far the most obvious example). A question, perhaps not formulated too well, emerges. The asker is then told off in a fairly rude form that the question is basically illterate, incorrect, unclear or so on. Or something to the effect of buzzing off and checking the documentation. Sometimes an answer which is basically a google search is given, often incorrect, often misleading without understanding. Is this all a quest to get as many posts as possible? The net result is that the asker (probably a computer science student or a beginner of some sort) is likely to go away and never come back to this forum. I am not sure how to fix this, but the rule should be that if you are not an expert in the area, or if you haven't encountered the problem, or if you are not sure, do not waste server space. Quantity is not quality. How to enforce it I am not sure (may be impossible).
Also, has any consideration been given to adding an "Ignore user" feature like on some other forums? I just find impossible that comments/answers/messages emanating from a poster at a rate of 20-60 per hour (calculated, sustained rate, not even allowing for sleep) can be useful. There are so many brilliant answers/comments/articles on CP - they get obscured by these incessant posts.
And, yes, in case if you are wondering I am all for freedom of speech

Well, it looks like I was right in the middle of the exchange of comments for that particular link. After my last comment, I had not looked back at the post before I read this, so I did not see the comment you had deleted and have no idea why that was.
I am not sure what to tell you regarding your main concern. A lot of the answers are great, detailed and show the poster got involved trying to help the OP solve the problem. Then there is the other side.
There are a lot of questions in QA that should never have been asked and most of the time, I don't mind if the OP gets told off and never comes back, but i agree it is not always appropriate and you never know when a valuable member decides to just log off forever because of it.
In case you are wondering, my references are intentionally general as I am trying to address the average answer and not necessarily those supplied by one or a few individuals.

Firstly I have never had any problems with any of your comments of answers. I wasn't of course referring to your comments in the particular thread that I have described - I think it is crystal clear if you read the exchange.
First part of the question is - how is it possible for posters to delete other posters messages? I tried to find out on help pages but cannot see the answer to the question. Just to make sure, I re-posted it and it is deleted again. So it has been deleted twice.
The second part of my post has no easy answer - may be a moderator or two should have a quiet word with particular individuals otherwise it is just getting too heavy, to the effect that quantity is not quality. But somehow I don't think it has a high chance of succeeding.

Don't worry, I did not feel in any way you were referring to me, I just wanted to note that I had not read the comment you had deleted even though I had been making comments just before that.
Anyway, to answer your first question: Yes, members with sufficient reputation points can delete comments made by other members. I am not exactly sure, but I suspect it follows the privileges for deleting Questions and Answers, so Gold level in Author, Authority, Editor or Organiser (see the Privileges tab on your profile page).

I've just seen this thread, so I apologise if it seems like I'm late to the party. I have, on occasion, deleted comments from QA. There are two instances where I do so.
1. If the comment is blatantly abusive.
2. If the comment is spam.
If I can delete comments, then so can many others.
I also delete questions for the same reasons, plus one other - if it's a repost with no answers to it, and the original post has answers. In this particular case, I always put a comment on the question before I delete it (ths poster will receive a notification with my explanatino for why I deleted it).
Finally, and not wanting to bad mouth the guy, many many people have had run ins with this particular individual. A lot of the time, he gives good answers - he's just not receptive to not lecturing others.

A lot of the time this particular individual gives useless answers too, which is understandable given the rate at which his answers are coming out. Probably barely has time to think before typing.
Well, maybe personal vendetta is not justified in this case then. But I find it discouraging to see my comment deleted, when his much more disparaging (IMO) comments can stand on the same thread/exchange.
Anyhow, thank you I might reserve "Report user" till next time
