hmm... well, having administator(o such) rights on your web directory, you can run processes without an external component  But nevermind..
Have you tried to execute the same command line from windows itself? Will it produce any files?

Yes,I have test it with windows2k's cmd,and also test it with a VB application,both produce two files.I doubt that the asp component has produce files,but these files cann't be stored in disk.

TITLE: configuring IIS - virtual directory / ASP.NET
Hi, I just reinstall my machine. I copied all asp.net projects (previously backed up on a CD) to the new IIS/website named "somecompany" under webroot. I also move the project solution sln file under "My Document".
When I compiled again, I got this error:

So, I add a "new virtual directory" using the management console. After which, the error message became "Page Cannot Be Displayed"
Can anyone tell me how to configure my project directory as a virtual directory? Am I doing anything wrong that I just create a "new virtual directory" and map it to my project folder (containing the bin and aspx...etc)??
I have a feeling that there's more you need to do.

You have to make the Virtual Directory a Web-application as well.
Try this:
- Go into the IIS console
- Navigate to your virtual directory
- Right click and select Properties
- At the bottom of the screen that pops-up there is an Application Settings frame
- If there is a button saying "Remove" then you already have an application and I don't know what your problem is
- If there is a button saying "Create", then click it. A default app will be created and your project should now work

Yes, "Romove" is there.
But two more tips:
1. there's no compilation error. Not even runtime error registered by VS.NET. Just "Page cannot be displayed" on internet explorer.
2. I have another problem if I just type the URL of the aspx directly: "You are not authorized.."
3. If the page is referred to by another page, the page is loaded SUCCESSFULLY!!?
This is a simple ASP page that refer to the aspx application via POST/form submit.

Any links, books or other info about making complex u/i within a HTML based app. Particularly interested in displaying lists of data and allowing an item to be selected. (ListView alike)

Billions of links, articles, books and opinions on the topic. Best is to post specific questions on the topic. e.g. How do I make a table of data select the whole line? etc.
Basically what you will have to do is learn CSS, JavaScript and the DOM (document object model.) Those three coupled together will let you create feature rich UIs. CSS is what styles everything, makes it look nice. JavaScript lets you manipulate the DOM.
Best way to learn is to look at examples, best example is: OddPost Go into the trial version and check out the soruce code. Stunning stuff.

Luckily I won't be the poor sod coding this - I'll be the one running the projects. I'd just like to get a feel for what is and isn't possible. The OddPost link (along with Exchange Webmail) gives me hope that we can get some kind of useable interface. The stuff I've been demo-ed by the developers at the moment is pretty poor; but these are VB guys not web-developers.
Any good books on CSS, JavaScript, DOM etc that bring it all together to produce something useful rather than the lackluster demos that seem to dominate the ASP books I have?

In short no.
Front-end web-development is quite imature and has so many ifs and buts that any rules or any one book does not help.
What I need to know before I can recommend a book or site is what environment are you coding for? The public internet? An intranet where the browser set is controlled? A set of external users which you can enforce a base level browser?

Currently intranet based using the current version of IE. We have pretty much standardised on IE throughout the group. (Which should make life easier)

Hi,
I need info regarding the e-com, of which I dont know head/tail. Let me tell the existing scenario. I have a site hosted at some server, that displays the product info. Now I wanna change to a e-com site, to allow user purchase the product online, using credit cards! My questions are,
1. How do I find if my server suports the credit card gateway etc??
2. Are there any separate service providers who can provide this credit card service alone to my server?? How do I locate them?
3. Is there any online help, to learn about this e-com (search engine gives only the e-com sites, not help)

You don't need. You almost answered in your second question, yes there are different providers, one for web hosting and another (or more) for credit cards. If you live in US/Canada (I believe that most of Europe too) you have no problem at all. It called "Merchant account". As well as you can ask in your bank, they all know what is that and how to manage it. If you don't want (or can't), there is still some hope - use http://www.paypal.com[^]. It allows you to make almost the same thing, users can use credit cards on your site and buy things from you. There is only one downside of it: they have to be PayPal customers as well (signup is free and most of people are already members there).

I'm looking for info on how to make any file (.pdf, .jpg, .doc, .anything) forced as a download even if the browser (mainly IE) thinks it knows what to do with that kind of file.
For example:
I have a series of links, I want the user to only have to left click to initiate the download. If they click on a .jpg file it will try to open it in the browser and just show the image. I want it to prompt a user for downoad regarless of file type.
I am using ASP to develop this project currently.

I found a code that goes a little further...
no only does it force the download...but it allows you to list all the files in a specified (or dynamically generated) path, but it lets you select the file that you want to download, sort the files but type, name or weight.

Hi all:
I hav problems when I try to connect to a Exchange Server with MAPI. The situation is as follows:
I have Exchnage Server in one machine and the ASP.NET application that access it in another machine. In order to logon I use this:
oSession.Logon(strUser, strPassword, False, True, 0, True, strProfileInfo)
and it connects. But when I try to access to any resource in the exchange (the inbox, for example) the next error appears:
"The information store could not be opened. [MAPI 1.0 - [MAPI_E_LOGON_FAILED(80040111)]]"
I think this is because access restrictions or something like that. Anyone has an idea of what is happening?
What is the best way to work against Exchange with this architecture (Exchange Server in one machine and ASP.NET application in another?
Any help will be apreciated.

Just annoys me trying to remember every attribute of every tag and every style available. Would be nice to have something I can stick on a zip disk and carry around with me.

I have some VB code in a .bas that I want to use in an ASP file, can this be done? And how would I go about doing it - i.e. what do I need to do in the ASP code to use the .bas file?
The code in the .bas is just a few public functions, nothing special - and it's not an ActiveX control.
