Half question, Half suggestion.
I'm sure like some other visitors to the site I have been working on some academic type stuff. Some of it is integrated into C++ code examples and some not.
Many of them are not my own Algorithms, put in code but examples and tests of others Algorithms.
Most of codeproject seems to focus towards stuff with a practical application in mind. However most of the algorithms will never see a real use. (Partly because not many study them.)
So should Academic stuff be placed at CP or not?
If so where the scrap-book?

Absolutely. If there's enough then I'll place them in their own section. ATM there is an 'algorithms' sub section in the C++/MFC section (www.codeproject.com/cpp).

I personally think it'd be pretty cool to get some more articles that have an academic background to them, or at least that are more "algorithmically orientated" rather than just "here's a cool UI widget" - I really enjoyed your vector class for instance. I guess it's just that a lot of programs today are just "lets make a database and a pretty interface" but some of the compsci stuff is also pretty interesting.
If I ever get time I might try and contribute something like this, but it's not gonna happen anytime soon 'cause I'm sooo busy at the moment

Great idea!
One of the reasons I still hang on to back issues of DDJ is for the annual Algorithms issue. Algorithms are all too easy to find on the web, but they usually exist as free-standing code with little theoretical development to explain their usage. A library of CP-style tutorials, augmented by actual code, would be an invaluable reference, and a fun one to contribute to for members who have obscure interests. We have some now, but they're spread all over the place, depending on the language used for implementation, application area, or embedded in larger projects. Let's put them all in one central place for easy reference!

It would be interesting to see more stats beyond the "most recent best rated" and all-time articles/comments submitted. Some suggetsions:
1) A section "This week on CodeProject":
- New articles sorted by popularity
- Updated articles sorted by popularity
- Most active users (articles and comments)
- Most active articles (by number of new comments)
2) Overall author ratings (average of article ratings?)

as I know you get all messages that come into this forum, take a look at the articles/request forum where another user has reported article downloads installing backdoors to their PC.
Not sure you would have seen it otherwise.

The text areas shown on the "reply to message" page don't size to the width of the screen like on the modify and new message forms. Could this be changed please? If you have a high screen resolution then it is a pain to scroll this little box on the far left of the screen so much when there is all that screen real estate being unused.

No - it's absolutely not necessary - and may even be a PITA. However, I've added the DHTML formatting buttons which seem popular, so going one step further and just making it a bit more seamless may make sense. I'll probably do a small trial and see.

Why is the search engine on this site so HORRABLE! I enter something in the Search edit control, press the Go button and it gets hits on everything except what I am looking for. For example, just now I wanted to find something about circular queues, but I got a million hits on everything but that topic.

Personally it's still not where I want it to be. I'm looking at a bunch of options and one of them will be "bite the bullet and buy a commercial grade solution". <hangs head in shame>

With all the talent available here, why not specify the parameters required for the Search Engine and make it a competition? Set up an area to access each entrant separately, then let the user comments for each determine the winner after a suitable test period - parhaps 3 months or so.

But I'm continually having problems voting.
How do you remember a 5 is bad or is it good and a 1 is the opposite ?
Also a couple of times I have clicked on a message and it was the voting number by mistake

When you're scoring things in isolation, higher == better.
When you're ranking things in relation to each other, lower == better.
You score an article based on whether it's helpful or noise, thus higher number == better score. If you were asked to rate the last 10 MC++ articles 1-10, the best article is ranked #1, so lower number == better rank.

I tried to change my sig today and got this message instead:
"The name you supplied has already been registered. Please choose another."
Turned out there is another Rohit Sinha (member number 234913) registered on 14th Feb this year. If duplicate names are not allowed, how could he register using that name? If they are, why am I not being allowed to change my sig?
And since I am not trying to change my display name, and only my sig, I think I should be allowed to do it, even if duplicate names exist. After all, I registered much before the other Rohit Sinha, and have been using that name for a long time now.
Could you please look into it? Thanks.

After projects where I've merged source and resources from many separate projects into one project, I end up going through removing unused source files and resources by trial and error.
Is there a utility to cleanup a project directory and remove (or move to backup directory) any source files and resource files that are not project dependencies? And while we're at it, remove unused resource IDs and renumber them?
