I have a Visual Basic 6 project
when I update in the form of the project then run the application from inside the Visual Studio 6 every thing goes fine.
When I build "Make" the exe the Visual basic ignore all my code updates and the exe appear as if I didn't change any thing.
Any Idea !!!!

I would try deleting or renaming the previous executable and "Make" it again. That should get you the latest build with the latest changes.
If all else fails why not try .NET. Just a thought.

This hint helped me to find the issue.
By some reason I kept calling old exe version rather than the new compiled one

The exe was designed to be called from the Run tool and pass some parameters as argument to it.
By mistake I renamed the exe and put a space in its new name. then I figured out that the run command utility doesn't support having space in the exe name and kept calling old exe

I want to develop a program that contains a table so that first column contain names ,second marks third ,Grade and a command button with caption "Provide Grade"
In Grade column will be displayed grades when Provide Grade"is clicked

Its been a long time since I have had VB6 installed so can't remember the exact name of the controls, but in the toolbox there is a grid control.
Then, the docs are your friend (and google).

If this is a new project for you then STOP . Download the .net express version and use that. It is free and supported.
VB6 is no longer a supported product and has not been for some years. If you are working on an existing app then you have my sympathies.

Hello !
i'm working on a vb.net 2010 project that use sql server 2008r2 database.
i want to backup database .i'm using this code :
path="c:\\users\user\desktop\backup.bak"
cmd = New SqlCommand("backup database MYDB to disk='" & path & "'", con)
con.Open()
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
con.Close()
... but i'm getting an error
Cannot open backup device 'c:\\users\user\desktop\backup.bak. Operating system error 5(Access is denied.).
BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.
if i change the path to "c:\\bck\backup.bak" , everything works fine.
But i want to backup my database on every destination that i can select.
what can i do ?

Can you access the user\desktop folder by navigating to it?
This may be a permission issue where you do not have access rights to any files or folders for a particular user - in this case, "user".

Why do you have a double backslash after c:, but not after the other parts of the path?

it does not really matter, you can have as many as you like, up to the point of exceeding the maximum path length.
Remember this is VB, anything goes, and there's no escape in this world.

Your code is giving you Access Denied because either the path is wrong or the user running your app doesn't have permissions to the specified path. Also, if the SQL Server is not running as the user, it will NOT have permissions to the users folders.

- the path is ok , and the code works on other folders for example c:\backup\database.bak , doesn't work on folders like c:\users\user\xxxxx... , or directly on c:\ .. etc
- the user that run application has administrator rights

Yes, but is he using them? On Vista and 7, by default, all users, including admins, DON'T use their admin rights unless they are called for.

What account does the SQL Server service run under?? If you don't know, open Task Manager and under the Processes tab, find sqlservr.exe. Next to that, you'll see a column labeled User Name. Which account is the service running under?? I'd be willing to bet it's NETWORK SERVICE, which doesn't have permissions to any user folders...
It's not the user making the backup, it's the SQL Server. The user is just sending a command to the server to do the backup.

I'm using windows 7 and my user have administrator rights and use them.
on task manager sqlservr.exe process , has Network service on "User name" column.
what can i do , because is very important for my application , to make backups on every local directory or removable media that user select.

Are you saying that you have SQL Server stored procedures or other SQL Server code making a backup of user files??
