I think anyone who's a long term author will probably end up with more points after the recalc, since the +5 has only been applied to new downloads (proof: Maunder has ~200k downloads, but nowhere near 1M author points).

If you maintain the act of downloading is worth 2 points, you are basically saying that to CP readers are more important than writers.
Giving points for being downloaded is OK, having a way to limit the number is fine too (a linear function does not achieve that, you will change your mind again later on), however I must suggest, once more, you don't give any points for actively downloading, it does not organize anything, therefore not 2 Org points, not 1 Org points, just nada.

Good idea - but maybe go with diminishing returns. A log scale: 1 point per download for the first 1000, 1 per 10 for the next 10K, 1 per 100 for the next 100K etc.
Either way - when do you plan to implement this change? Gotta know how long I have my platinum rating

Not a bad idea - but what if someone makes a significant update to an article? The decay factor will need resetting. If we do this, then there is nothing to stop someone simply renaming their download regularly to reset whatever we put in place.
As to timing, we have to work through a perf issue that has seen the recalc blow out to 4 days instead of half a day. Just trying to work out which SLEEP(1000) call needs to be removed.

As there is no real way to automagically measure the significance of an update, I would vote against resetting the decay factor.
Updates still get rewarded indirectly - an update tends to result in renewed exposure which (assuming the article is worthy), leads to more upvotes.
As a side note, I would also say that the act of downloading should result in any rep points.

Andy's still active on CP (made posts today). Post a message on the article forum asking him (he'll get an email notice). I suspect he just hasn't thought about it for his old stuff since the explicit license feature is only a few years old.

Today while writing my latest 2 articles, it really became obvious and annoying how this little bug is;
While using the WYSIWYG editor, every 99% of the time I hit enter to carriage return, the editor lost focus and I had then to reclick in the editor with the mouse to return focus to the control and continue typing.
This is on Chrome 11.0.696.71 by the way.
Another little bug I noticed was on the insert link popup dialog. The submit / cancel buttons are 'off dialog' and had to resize to access them.

I stopped using the online editor after it gave me several free obedience lessons. Don't use it. Problem solved, no worries!

I don't generally, but they were simple (really simple) articles, and I couldn't be bothered wrestling with the templates and VS editor etc etc.
They were fine apart from the couple of bugs.....

This article. Some of the text (message bodies, message timestamps, "rate this message") in the forum under that article is orange (same shade as headers in the article). I think maybe there's an unclosed tag or something of that sort. I only see it in IE8 (looks fine in Chrome and FF). Another possibility is that some closing tags are in the wrong order and some browsers are handling it better than others (e.g., <b><i>wrong</b></i>).

It was a spurious <h2 /> tag. IE8 doesn't consider it self-closed so it affects the rest of the page.
All fixed.

I don't think it's common knowledge 
Every time you go into edit an article, that article becomes locked for 20 mins. So, amusingly enough, by going in to figure out how to unlock your article, you've locked it again
