Add a tab to the home page that shows the article competitions. In that tab page, show four buttons/links on the left side:
Current Month (use the actual name of the month instead of "Current Month")
Previous Month Winners (use the actual name of the month instead of "Previous Month")
Current Feature Competitions
Past Feature Winners
For Monthly Competitions:
Depending on which one is clicked, it will show the competition page for that month. The "previous month" page would show the categories and their winners. The "current month" page would show the current month's competition entries.
Once a competition is completed, and entries have been chosen for the next competition, the page for from the current month moves to "Previous month", and a new page is generated for "Current month" with the new entries.
The end result is that there are always two months of competition immediately available, which solves the issue we have at this very minute that shows no active competitions, and actually finding what happened in the past. Also, although we haven't had the December contest yet, there's no mention of it *anywhere*. The current contest page says there's no contest for January, yet the past contest listing stops at November.

Using FF:
When I go to "My Posts" in Q/A, the Questions tab reveals a mostly blank content area with the items that *should* be in that list posted all the way over to the right side of the screen. Further, the tags panel on the right side overlays the questions, hiding the area of the questions consumed by the panel, but showing the edges of the question div.
The "Answers" tab is correctly aligned horizontally, but vertically, it shows the list of answers top-aligned with the tabs, thus scrambling the text because you can see both the tab titles and the answer items.

Using FF:
When I went to edit an alternate tip/trick, all of the page content was crunched all the way over to the right side of the screen. It was still editable, but on my 1680x1050 screen, it was only like 600 pixels wide.

Some people downvote helpful postings. They seem to expect fully debugged solutions, ready for deployment, to their problems - as in free money.
It would be nice if downvoting required an explanation – and a way to rate that too. Possibly disallowing “interested parties” from taking part in that rating procedure

Message down-voting is a fact of life here. Some of us have suggested a complete revamp of the voting system, but as you might imagine, any change in the system might be a bit of a problem as far as adjusting past voting records, and the possibility of completely hosing things as a result up is quite obvious.
Many times, people will 1-vote your answer if it doesn't fix their specific problem, or as you cited, if the solution you provide doesn't contain actual code. There's nothing you can do about it other than edit your answer to ask why they voted it a 1 and hope they are convinced to come back and change their vote, or that someone else comes along and up-votes your response in a move to counteract the 1-vote. In a bizarre twist, sometimes they mark your answer as *the* answer, and then proceed to vote it a 1. Where's the logic in that?
All you can do is accept it and move along.
