Have a page on http://a.com, which references Javascript code from http://b.com. That js source contains a function which itself pulls in two documents from two distinct locations (http://c.com/… and http://b:com/…), one being an XML document and one being an XSLT stylesheet. Javascript code transforms a single node and displays the result. It seems the above violates the “same origin” security policy. IE6 thinks so, too. IE responds “access denied” unless all parts come from the same domain, or unless all related domains are listed as “trusted sites”. Mozilla 1.2.1, however, does not have that concern and goes ahead. What’s going on? Which is right and which is wrong? Any thoughts? The short answer is you cannot do this with standard web controls. The long answer is you can do it using a couple of other non standard techniques, all of which invariably are more hassle than they are worth. You could write a custom control in VB/C++/Whatever and compile it into an ActiveX control and use that. Problematic though. You could do the same with a JavaApplet. Lastly you could use complex DHTML to replace the ListBox. But I guarantee that will be filled with hassles. Why do you need checkboxes in a listbox? Unfortuantley not. Here is an explanation of your problem. The long and short of it is that the only workaround is to put dropdowns in IFrames or normal Frames, which is hardly a solution. IFrames or Frames is not a solution for me at all. I'm basically doing an ASP.NET ripoff using javascript and jsp/j2ee. An IFrame or Frame would be really tricky for me to even consider maintaining state. I've done one of the two suggestions made by the KB (yes, Microsoft has known about this a long time now! ). Their best solution was to create a popup window which I could put my HTML in. But I couldn't use it anyway since the content is of variable size - the popup only support fixed sizes. Their second, last and ugly solution is to hide all select-elements when showing the floating div. Without any other feasible option, I had to bite the bullet. I will have to redesign the UI radically later on, just because of a simple stupid bug Microsoft should have fixed a looooong time ago. Maybe I should have a rant in the soapbox now... -- This space for rent.
