I hear you. It was a pain at my old work place to see women is tinny little dresses sandals and the like
while I had to sweat in my jeans. Many reasons why I hated sweating besides the heat.
Though were I work now, I could theoretically (I wouldn't unless I drank my minds out) go in boxers.
Nobody cares. It's a small start-up firm. So at least a few years we'll be "HR corporation standards" free.
That is if we, better said the firm lasts that long.

I don't think it was the heat making you sweat in your jeans though.

As for me? Women in tiny dresses - BLESS THEM ! ! !
That long clingy yellow dress - with the black thong showing through - I don't mind and won't complain.
Maybe it's just me - but there some part of me (literally & physically) that never want to grow old.

Ok, so there are only men responding to this, *obviously*. I'm trying to read the replies, but the testosterone haze is blocking my view. T-shirts, for either gender, is not appropriate for business casual. Capris are borderline, and they better be kind of dressy, or save them for casual Friday. Someone said something about a see-through yellow dress with a black thong? Not appropriate for the office. Maybe at a strip club. It's not always what you wear, but how you wear it, as any woman knows. Sandals? What's sloppy about that? Assuming they look nice, as anyone's footwear should be. And you know, no one said you guys couldn't wear strappy sandals with your white capris. If you want to, then go ahead and wear them and stop your baby whining. HR would probably be afraid to discriminate against you because of your sexual orientation, so you might get away with it. No one has to know you're not really gay.
My point is, to you fashion-challenged men, don't blame us women if you got the short end of the stick for dress code. It's not our fault. We women were more clever and more persistent then the men because we care more about what we wear. Women were clever enough to claim the skirt, after all, a most wonderful and airy dressing experience on a hot day. If you guys don't want to wear these things, then why the hostility against women? Please just skip the see-through yellow dress with the black thong though. That look doesn't flatter anyone.

I was with you until you made the bizarre assumption that man + sandals = most_likely_gay, and then went on to denigrate men for being less stylish than women. There were some sexist comments in here before yours. Now there are sexist comments in here including yours 
Also, a see-through yellow dress with a black thong can be perfectly flattering. It's just not work-appropriate.

I agree my comments were sexist--against men, but hey, all the other sexist comments were against women, so I was trying balance the scales a little.  And BTW, when I see a man wearing white capris and strappy sandals, I think he is probably gay, but that's just me. Not all sandals, just the strappy ones with heels. Now, I think I will take myself shopping for a yellow dress ...

At the risk of sounding overly cynical that's an arguement in favor or having women in some positions of authority because they can provide appropriate counselling without giving the idiots room to file a harassment complaint.

When I first came to work here I interviewed in a dress clothes, tie and sportscoat. Reasonably casual but dressy enough, it was the best I had at the time -- I no longer had any suits that would fit me. The Engineering manager at the time commented that he was glad to see I wore a tie (he alone wore a tie) so he didn't feel so isolated (or something to that extent). The other members of the interview committee wore dress slacks and a dress shirt (engineering supervisor), jeans and a dress shirt (one of the higher engineers) and the last one: fuchsia shorts and a T-shirt that practically glowed. The latter was the only programmer on staff at the time who enjoyed "breaking all the rules".
Because of the comment from the top management representative, I wore ties to work every day to match him once I was hired. After a couple of weeks he pulled me to the side and told me it was a joke, I could be a lot more casual, though he paused, perhaps not as casual as Johnny.
I wear jeans, sneakers, and a polo, or other business casual shirt.  Jeans since any of us can be sent out into the desert is pretty much just smart.

I alwadys wonder if a golf shirt (business casual) brings better image for a company than a T-shirt (casual), or how much better a pair of leather shoes than a pair of sneakers.

Business casual is more about reducing the risk that someone will wear a Jack Daniels t-shirt to work, or one of those modern geeky shirts with an inside joke that seems innocuous, but isn't. (DILLIGAF)
It's easier to tell people to wear golf shirts and button-downs than to list all of the specific things they aren't allowed to have on a t-shirt.

That was a reasonable explanation. Another fact that confuses me is that business causal seems to be more strict to men than to women. For example, a lady can wear shoes that expose her painted nails without socks on but a man can't wear sandals. It could be a different requirement with different companies.

Well actually a pair of rather stylish Italian black leather jobs that look almost like shoes. Nice on the feet after cycling into work.
We had a girl on work experience with us last year, and when she left everyone got a nice thankyou card. Mine was addressed to 'the sandal guy'
We do have to put on a tie if we are visiting clients though. Keeps you warm when trying to work at the top of a ladder on the one tiny monitor hidden on top a rack in the server room!

Is the dress code matters for the developers who spend more then 8 hours in his/her desk. If I am consider thous guys who are write code and not directly involved into the other business, then it does not matter to me.
