I was watching this SharePoint 2010 video and the guy mentioned that SP2010 uses a lot of AJAX to prevent a full postback. I've always thought AJAX involved the whole postback cycle only, the client browser discards the rest and renders only the control that sent the postback?

Yes that's true.
There is a ton of AJAX in SharePoint 2010. This not only means it will perform fast but will be visually appealing as it will reduce a lot of the annoying page refreshes.
Just googled[^] out new feature of sharepoint 2010 and
you will get overall idea where you will get benefit
of AJAX in sharepoint 2010.

Controls such as UpdatePanel will perform as you have described because they are ASP.NET server controls. However, direct AJAX calls are completely out of band and usually implemented with web services on the server side, which, of course, don't have a page life cycle to follow.

I know there's lot of examples .... I've also studied some of them ... but most of them are working like this, that page at client side sends query to server for updates and then server response back with updated / new msgs.
But i want that server automically sends new messages to other client/users when recieve new message in chat history database . .
So for that i want to know two things ..
1- its mechanism
2- how to identify users, means i have database of users ... in which i use there ID as PrimaryKey ... and let suppose i have to send update to user with ID A, B, & C so how i now there destination ... because there are many users using this chating page/site.
So plz help me.....

problem is that i don't know how to transfer video b/w each others .... wether by uploading video to server from client-a and then transmit it to other client/users .... aur any other good and efficient mechanism ... ??

Experts,
I have uploaded a simple site with a HTML page and a PHP page.
Supposedly on a click on the HTML page the the php file should then run but it says that the page cannot be found.
I don't get this because it is in the same place as the HTML file and all the directories seem to be fine.
i've even tried to go onto the web address and have the php file linked after e.g
www.google.co.uk/example.php
but then it comes up saying page not found
Any ideas?

Hi, Mention the url correctly.
Consider your website is www.google.com.
Consider your home page is www.google.com/home.htm
You have a link in home page for example.php
So,
you can mention the url as relative,
example.php
or you can mention the url as absolute,
example.php
Either ways it will work perfectly.

I am a newbee in jsp development and I am using Netbeans IDE 6.9 for JSP web development. I am doing jsp development with Apache Tomcat server
In one jsp page I want to use a web service on a web server. This web service was developed in asp.net.
My general understanding is to reference a web service in the JSP application with netbeans is
create a web service client. I follow the steps as
1. Right click on project and select new-> web service client
2. Give WSDL URL as http://imgsdev1/lpobjectscrm/captureservice.asmx?wsdl
3. Client style as JAX-WS style
4. Finish
But I get the following error:
Web Service Client can not be created by JAXWS:wsimport utility.
Reason: undefined element declaration 's:scheme'
There might be a problem during java artifacts creation: for example a name conflict in generated classes.
To detect the problem see also the error messages in output window.
You may be able to fix the problem in WSDL Customization dialog
(Edit Web Service Attributes action)
or by manual editing of the local wsdl or schema files, using the JAXB customization
(local wsdl and schema files are located in xml resources directory(,
After you fix the problem you need to refresh client from the web service reference node.
In xml-resources-> web-service-refrences-captureservice-wsdl-imgsdev1-lpobjectscrm-captureservice.wsdl
I found this block with the s:schema tag

If i remove this block it doesnt like also.

Can you post the html code around your image control (i.e. the table section) and the size of the image you're putting in? (Please remember to use the "pre" tags when doing so).

Let's say there is a client app installed on a computer. I want to send notification to the client app from the web server. I know I can do this with a client and server app by opening a tcp connection. Can a non-http tcp connection be opened between the client app and the http server? Do I need to run a client app on the web server? Will running such an app, like an .exe file, cause performed problems for a standard http web server? Would I need a dedicated server?
Initiating periodic http requests from client app would not be fast enough for my requirements.

As has been pointed out before, this is the wrong way to do it. Standard network communication should always be initiated from the client, with the server always listening for connection requests. If you try to initiate communication from the server what happens if the client is not listening?

I guess what I mean to say is that once connection is initiated by client, how can I have fast real-time communcation between client and web server. Can that be done on one of the many shared hosting solutions that cost $20 a month or so, or do I need a dedicated server with 2 seperate components:
1. the web server
2. the server app programmed in perhaps c++, java, or whatever

I'm not sure that I could answer this question as so much depends on the location of the server and client, the bandwidth available, line speed, traffic volumes etc. The only way to get a reasonable idea of speed would be to talk to the hosting services to see what facilities they offer.
