I am trying to download to a file on the client from my database, then confirm with an email, and record sucess / failure in the acoount access log. I generate the data, then do the following:
Response.Buffer = true;
Response.ContentType = "text/plain";
Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "attachment;filename=" + user.UserName + ".AccountActivity.txt");
Response.BinaryWrite(System.Text.Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(data.ToString()));
Response.Output.Flush();
And fine, I get the Save As dialog, the file saves.
Problem: If I do just as above, the full HTML for the client page is appended to the file, but the email and log are fine.
If I add Response.End(), the saved file is fine, no extra HTML there, but the email and log don't occur.
Is there a way to end the file transfer without ending the page?

If you dont close the response it will keep on adding htmls to the document. If you are only downloading a file, always close the Response.
do the email sending and log before you download if it affects the Response.
Now before you add ContentType , use Response.Clear
and then use your code to download the file.

I have developed an application in ASP.NET and C#.
Inititially the application was for a single client with 1 user.
Now I wan't to enhance the application, and turn it in to a platform that many merchants can subscribe to.
The use case is as follows:
"A user will login (assumes user was set up). This user will be a member of a merchant (entity that subscribes to my service).
There can be many users to a merchant, each having different roles in a hierarchy. One of the roles would be a merchant administrator.
There will need to be a special user(s) within the system to create new merchants and users. This user with be a System Administrator.
The merchants can have subscribers (past customers and potential customers) for newsletters et al."
I have envisaged having a merchant table in my database. The user table would have a foreign key to the merchant table. Modelling the 1:m relationship.
My knowledge of the membership provider is limited, and therefore is my use case implementable using the Microsoft provider. If not does anyone have an example which they could share.

Hello friends,
I am writting a mini-forum web-based application using c#. I need to display the data on a data control. I want to display the data on a data control otherthan the GridView control just like the one I see on this site forum. Which of the (Repeater or ListView) controls is suitable for this purpose and how?
Also, how do I always fetch the latest post and pagging mechnism to the oldest post?
Thanks for your usual assistance and supports.

I think you can use either of them. Repeater has better grip on html than Listview. You can use it if you want to write your own html totally.

For this, you can just sort the query based on post date.

No overload for method 'Open' takes '1' arguments (xlBooks.Open((Server.MapPath(Request.ApplicationPath) + "\\XLTemplate.xls"));)
As it clearly mentioned that i m supplying the in-sufficient arguments. but i dont know how to resolve it. nearly 13 arguments are there... how to solve it... ?

I suspect your question is not clear. If you want to access the controls on the client side, you need to pass the ClientID property through to javascript on the client side. This would be the same no matter how they were created.

The big issue with dynamic controls is that if you don't create them before page load, they have no viewstate.

Of course, there should be some web interface which sends sms for you. If you are looking for a free service, you might go for way2sms. but I dont think it is a good idea as it works only for India.
There are lots of other sites which offer sms services with minimum cost. You might opt for them.
