Have you tried passing your strings through this method ? If you have the source AND the database, have you tried just stuffing new known passwords into the DB table ?

thanks for your reply,
that is what i would do if i knew how to turn non-encrypted text (e.g. "password") into the correctly encrypted (3des) and encoded (base64) string.
example of a string in the db table:
sjC7ZhlynyK9RasULeXEQDpc5Y4=
As you can probably tell, i dont have any experience with encrypting strings

I'm sorry, please explain to me how the code you posted is NOT the code you need to decrypt a string, and perhaps explain in that case, why you posted it at all ?

i believe this code is what is used to encrypt text that is entered into a password box to a string that is checked against the existing strings in the database... i mainly code in php, so even applying this code to a string generating form would be a challenge for me. would it be easy for you to explain or help with this?

If you have no idea how to read C#, why have you taken this job ?
The obvious thing to do here, is to step through the code, with breakpoints on all these methods, and see what happens when you try to login, and when you create a new account. From there, you should be able to write a winforms app that takes passwords and decodes them, or just reset the passwords in the DB.

well, account creation is not something that was coded into the script... i was hoping that someone would be able to help confirm the type of encryption/encoding and suggest a tool for mimicking that process.

"intelli3DESEncryption" is a third party component, although I thought the framework had DES encryption built in. Your best bet is ALWAYS to use the encryption/decryption code that the app uses, not some third party code that claims to impliment the same thing, what if they differ ?

There is another which not a straight forward method but workable. If he knows password of any other user then just replace the password of current user with the password of second user. Now login to the website and change password.
This technique only works if he is not using any hash uniquely to build unique password.

thanks for the input, hes not sure of the password though... one thing i found is that there is a web based user admin page that would allow me to edit the current passwords of the backends users. i am trying to figure out how to build a login form with a static username/pass that will allow me to access the user admin page so i can change the passes. the only problem is that i am used to php or asp and this codebehindpages and .dll stuff is confusing.

But it does open ? Have you tried _blank for the target ? Have you tried with more than one browser ? Do you have any sort of popup blocker installed ?

Then perhaps you need to be clearer. Or is this some sort of a puzzle that you want me to solve ? What's the prize ?

OK - but you're providing a full URL, so it's not a relative path issue. Have you viewed the source to see if it's being rendered ? Tried adding an alert to see if it's being run ? Typed the url being passed to the browser ( copied from the browser HTML ) into your browser to see if it opens in that context ?

fnPayment() javascript
function fnPayment() {
var windowFeatures;
windowFeatures = "type=fullWindow,fullscreen,toorbar=no,status=yes,scrollbars=yes,left=0, top=0;";
window.open('aspxtest.aspx?reg=' + intReg , '_inst', windowFeatures);

I use to be a VB6 developer before migrating to .NET.
I am looking for a way to do something (as in, call a procedure) whenever a textbox gets focus in ASP.NET but I couldn't find my way out. I am using VB.NET.
Please help me all.
Aweda.

Your basic problem is that you don't get how ASP.NET works, or what it does. ASP.NET generates javascript and html. There is in fact an event when a textbox gets the focus, in javascript. If there was one in the ASP.NET framework that called VB code, then that would be pointless, as the page would have to post back when it occured.

Hello guys
I want to know how to dsplay a frameless window in ASP.NET 3.5?
Also how do I display a popup (.aspx) window from an aspx page which will receive some values to display from the calling .aspx page?
I also wan to know how to display a popup window as a tooltip whenever an input control receives focus in asp.net 3.5 just like the one I noticed while I was posting a question at MSDN forum.
Lastly, how do I go about integrating users discussion forum in my website project.
I will grately appreciate your full support.

The way to make a window frameless, is to not open a window at all, but show a floating div.
If it's a floating div the values will be there automatically, but if you show a popup, you can use javascript to pass values to the parent
The thing you saw in MSDN is a floating div.
You write a discussion forum and add it to your site.

Thanks Christian Graus.
I really appreciate your point but on creating a frameless window but I don't know how to go about it. I will appreciate a sample code if you have or a resourcesful link on the subject.
Once again, thank you.

Here's what I got:
Working on an electronic version of our employment application. I'm on the last page of the application, which displays everything that the user has inputted into the app with a chance to make any changes to what they have entered. Each section of the application on this page is broken down into groups of ajax update panels with one panel to display the current information (which is pulled from session variables) and one panel that hold controls to change the information and save it back to session. On the section for the applicant's address information, I am able to pull everything correctly except when I take the session variable for their State and try to set it to the selected value of the drop down list, which is data bound to a database table that holds the state's abbreviation (which is the pk of the table) and the state's name. The value of the drop down list is the abbreviation, which is what is saved in the session value.
Now, I've tried two ways to set the selected value, with the session variable and by reading the database and setting it that way. Both ways don't work. The only thing I can think could pose the problem is that I'm inside of an update panel, but that doesn't make sense. Has anyone else seen this before?

Can you post your code when you set selected value of dropdownlist?
Thanks

Here it is. I've taken out the code that loads some of the other information from the session variables:
If Not IsPostBack Then
''load address info
lblStreet.Text = Session("Street").ToString
txtStreet.Text = Session("Street").ToString
lblCity.Text = Session("City").ToString
txtCity.Text = Session("City").ToString
'pull state name from database
Dim rdr As SqlDataReader = GetReader( _
"select * from States where stateID = '" & Session("State").ToString & "'")
Try
While rdr.Read
lblState.Text = rdr("Name").ToString
dropState.SelectedValue = rdr("stateID").ToString
End While
Catch ex As Exception
lblState.Text = Session("State").ToString
Finally
rdr.Close()
End Try
lblZip.Text = Session("Zip").ToString
txtZip.Text = Session("Zip").ToString
If Session("County").ToString <> "Null" Then
lblLblCounty.Visible = True
lblLblCounty.Text = "<label>County</label><br />" & _
"<label class=""displayLbl"">" & Session("County").ToString & "</label>"
lblCountyEdit.Visible = True
txtCounty.Visible = True
txtCounty.Text = Session("County").ToString
End If
End If
