The FileUpload control doesn't actually do any conversion. It simply allows the user to select a file, and then saves it to a specified path on the server. If you want to do any conversion on the file, you need to manipulate the file bytes. However, you could in theory check if the file is a video by looking at the FileUpload.PostedFile.ContentType property; if it starts with "video/" then it would appear to have the correct MIME type. I'm not certain whether this would work properly though - since it's just a byte stream, it could quite easily have the MIME type "application/octet-stream"

Hi i am creating a GUI to represent a virtual joystick, (Prototype to represent features)
I am encountering the white background problem.
I used a picture of the joystick in a picture box then added the controls however a white background appears on the rectangle around them even though i used this.BackColor = Color.Transparent;
It only happens when i put a picture box not if i set the picture as the form background.
Is there a way of getting rid of the white rectangles?

If I recall correctly, there is no real depth when dealing with overlapping controls. The transparency works by copying the background of the form to simulate it. If you have other controls in between you'll get the problem you are seeing. This is one of the things that WPF fixes.

Thanx. Yes i see what you mean. When i add the picture in the background the squares dissapear.
However this creates a problem, when i maximise the app the image is repeated several times (6) of the same picture, i cant get this to stop happening either.

Hi
My project is in .net 1.1
I have two windows services server and client in which the client will send requests to server remotely.
We have server and client installed in one test server(system 1) and one instance of client is installed in another machine(system2).
when any request go from client(system2) to server(system1) like fetching some data from database the requested data is not available in the database i am getting the below error
"ERR(-13):Server encountered an internal error. For more information, turn on customErrors in the server's .config file."
2. when the same request sent through the client(system1) to the server(system1)(both client and server are in same machine) i am getting proper error message.
"ERR(-1):Missing mandatory parameter 'Scenario'"
code :
*******
on starup i am doing the below
RemotingConfiguration.Configure(AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory + "ContextDataPoolService.exe.config");
RemotingConfiguration.CustomErrorsEnabled(true);
what is the solution, is there any mistake in my code?

I want to display a list of unicode in my datagridtable from hex 0000 to 00ff using the escape sequence \u.
I want to know whether theres a way to make the hex number beside the \u to increase by 1 by itself after each row. If not I will have to type out "\u0000" to "ÿ" manually which can be tiring.
I know i can use if,for each or while, but i can't find a way to just increase the hex number.
Thanks
string[] row1 = new string[]{ " ", "!", """, "#", "$", "%", "&", "'", "(", ")", "*" }

Seems trivial to me. Check out the overloads to ToString on an int, which let you specify the number of digits, and the number format.

So you are saving a text string and then trying to read it in as if it was a bitmap. I'm surprised yo're not getting a "Move Away From The Keyboard" exception.

you can't really. An uninstall always leaves behind files your app has created. I assume the directory stays because there are files in it.

Well, File, New, Windows Application. Not much to it, really. You should be reading a book or articles online before you ask questions like that.

If you open Visual Studio you'll see half-way down and to the left of the StartPage a green? box where it usually says stuff like "Create Your First C# Application" or Getting Started etc, click on one of those and you'll find lots of quick tutorials. It's a pretty good place to start.

*sigh* anyone notice how the questions get ridiculous around this time of day ?
It means that you're missing a using directive, or an assembly reference. It means you tried to access a class called abc, and no such class exists in the current scope. It also means you don't know how to use google, or read.

Exceptions should have a readonly "BeginnersErrorMessage" with that text you wrote as a "dumbed down" explanation what what went wrong.

"Exceptions should have a readonly "BeginnersErrorMessage" with that text you wrote as a "dumbed down" explanation what what went wrong."
That's actually not a bad idea. In addition to the simplified error messages there could be links from the messages' text into a semantic network containing the elementary programming knowledge experienced programmers take for granted. It could support people trying to program with no background in software by filling in the gaps in their knowledge.
It would probably be a good topic for an Artificial Intelligence thesis, or an ambitious term project.

It also means there is an access problem
no one is dumb to write a code without knowing they missed a namespace
its just that, the path in which the namespace should be present is not accessible
Anyways its my opinion
