I need an editable ComboBox in an ASP.NET WebForm.
The asp:DropDownList-Control behaves like a ComboBox with DropDownList-style i.e. the selection field cannot be edited. Is there any way to make the asp:DropDownList-Control behave like a ComboBox with DropDown-style, to edit the selection field?
thanks for help

Im trying t make my own online rpg which would require people to get an account. I need to know if there's any way to put some html scripting and make a server. (dont laugh at me if this is something very well known, Im just starting at this stuff )

it really depends on how your clients are accessing your server. Im sure you could definately program in some HTML scripting into your client game to connect to and login into a server (simply running IIS on NT) but thats not really a secure means of accomplishing that.
If your client connects through his webv browser, then this is the best wat to handle it. Just research using ASP to create login pages and user accounts in win2000.
If your client is conecting through an application like Quake CLient / Server technology then you will need to program a Server Application to handle that.

I am trying to create a small, non-MFC, HTTP Client.
Only problem is, I cannot find anywhere a clear explanation of the "Entity Body' when I have multiple keywords, i.e. if I wanted to send this;
http://msrv:16052/bahttp/ZZZXML;script=ZZZstart?fldattr=Y,tranid=tst4,applid=cicszz53
So I setup a TCP/IP session to msrv port 16052.
In my send data I code something like this;
char *packet1 = "GET /bahttp/ZZZXML HTTP/1.0\r\n"
"Accept: text/plain, text/html\r\n"
"Accept: image/gif, image/jpeg\r\n"
"Accept-Encoding: x-compress; x-zip\r\n"
"Accept-Language: en\r\n"
"User-Agent: MSIE/4.0\r\n"
"Connection: keep-alive\r\n"
"Pragma: no-cache\r\n"
"Content-Type: text/plain\r\n"
"Content-Length: 53\r\n"
"\r\n"
"script=ZZZstart?fldattr=Y,tranid=tst4,applid=cicszz53";
Problem is, the server complains that it did not receive any parameters....?
So what am I missing?
Bryan.

I have a page that I want play sound whenever I want.I embed a sound file in the page:
<embed src="canyon.mid" width="0" height="0" name="sound" hidden="true" loop="1" autostart="false" />
The control code is
document.sound.play();
//and I tried to use "document.sound.play(false);" too.
But when I view this page,the browser give me an alert:
The object doest not support this method.
But I found some guide topic as the following:
LiveAudio provides the following major JavaScript controlling methods. For
these methods to be available to JavaScript (and the web page), you must
embed a LiveAudio console (any console will do, it can even be hidden)
somewhere on your page.
• play({loop[TRUE, FALSE or an INT]}, '{url_to_sound}')
..........
So why does my page not work?
(My OS is Windows 2000 and Browser is MSIE6.0Pre
Thanks a lot!

I'm seeking ASP Grid to browse my SQL Server database through WEB.
But I have some requirements to it:
1. support of ADO
2. ability to get an external Connection object, not generate own connection
3. support of CSS
4. customizable user interface (I want to change column titles, button's captions)
5. page-by-page access to DB.
Do I want too much? Or I have to develop my own solution?
Any help will be appreciate.
With regards,
AIDS (aids@programmer.net)

Does anyone know why the following HTML file causes Netscape Communicator 4.7x to screw up? It claims to be still reading the file, but is in fact severely locked up - it has to be shut down manually using Task Manager.
I apologise for the length of code, but it is the smallest snippet I can get to demonstrate the problem.
<html>
<head>
<title>Test Page</title>
</head>
<body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" text="#000000">
<script language="JavaScript1.2">
var WIDTH_LOGO = 288, HEIGHT_LOGO = 64 ;
function CreateLogoDiv()
{
var strSpeech = "\"";
document.write("<LAYER ");
document.writeln("ID=" + strSpeech + "divLogo" + strSpeech);
document.writeln(" STYLE=" + strSpeech + "position:absolute; width:" + WIDTH_LOGO);
document.writeln("; height:" + HEIGHT_LOGO + "; z-index:2;" + strSpeech + ">");
document.writeln("<IMG SRC=" + strSpeech + "halegrange_mark.gif" + strSpeech + ">");
document.writeln("</LAYER>");
}
</script>
Hello<BR>
<script language="JavaScript1.2">
// This call below should generate the following HTML, which of course is not
// visible to the user:
// <LAYER ID="divLogo" STYLE="position:absolute; width:288; height:64; z-index:2;">
// <IMG SRC="some_image.gif">
// </LAYER>
CreateLogoDiv();
</script>
</body>
</html>

Not sure if this will help, but Netscape is a little flaky when you do multiple document.write's. You might want to have a single string containing the layer html and call document.write() once.

Is there any way to position the cursor within a form field like input box. I know the focus can be set to a form field using DOM's focus() method. But, Is there any way to find out the current cursor position and set the cursor position?.

It's possible in IE. Dont know about Netscape.
Use the TextRange object.
function mToEnd(iPut) {
sRange=iPut.createTextRange();
sRange.moveStart("textedit");
sRange.select();
}
I recall using a shorter form, but I can't remember it.

Does anyone know of any sites that allow you to run their cgi/perl scripts on their servers from your own form? For instance, I am developing a website for a non-profit organization. I have no access to cgi or perl with their website host. I would still like to have forms on the site, with the data emailed to a mail account. I would also like to have polls, etc. Is this possible, or am I running up the wrong tree.
Thanks, Dave

Hi, I am french so excuse my english faults. I am very new at ASP and I've bought a big book (WROX BEGINING WITH ASP) and I've just finish it and learn about the 7 objects and a few components. I work very hard but my question is, is it normal that I have problems to understand long script like 2 3 or 5 pages example, do I have to read ASP professional to understand better or take a course with a teacher? I am close to give up cause I work very hard and I still have lots of problems to understand others people codes.
thanks you very much to answer me or give me some good trick to help me!!!

It's normal that it is hard for you to understand a 2-5 page long script, especially if it wasn't created by you. I have also bought a big ASP book, but it has taught me a lot within the first 6 chapters and I have already been able to edit some of my first asp code.
In the book it said it is very hard to understand others programming, especially if they don't leave comments. If you want to "work together" in learning asp, so we can ask eachother questions and so forth, my e-mail address is Alexjfink@aol.com
Talk to you later,

Thank you very much for the answer and i am sorry again for my english i do my best... but i want to know if a book like WROX begining with asp, where they present you the asp object and component and some little script of max 15 to 30 lines i think is not enough, do you think it would be more easy if i would read ex: WROX professional would help or it's too much for me for now?
thank again for the peoples who take time to answer me...bye

Well to be brutally honest I would imagine it is very dificult understanding any book in a foreign language, never mind a full blown ASP coding book.
But if you feel your english skills are good enough then yes the WROX begining with ASP book is a good bet. They present short snippets of code in small incremental complexity jumps. Once you have mastered that then go back to the 2-3 page source code.

Hello,
In my spare time, I'm playing around with the IE5 HTA feature (HTML applications). I'm just wondering if anybody has experience with it and if it's a good choice for small scripted applications with a GUI? I'm using Windows Scripting Host to have scripting, but then I have no GUI. So I figured using this HTA thing was an easy way to get a simple GUI for my scripts...
Best regards,
Eddy Steevens
P.S. Does anybody know how to get links to other HTA applications working properly (if I click a link to a second HTA application, it opens in a new window, and it asks if I want to save the file, or just open it up...). I'm using IE5.0.
