Hello All,
I am a beginner to VxWorks.I was surfing the net for getting the study materials for the same.
Could somebody help me out to get a good intro & details of this valuable Real Time Operating System.

If I reinstall XP will it completely blitz my current install of XP?
i imagine I'll have to reservice -pack it...
it's just that it bluescreens whenever I try to logoff or switch user,
the system restore point has disappeared, I've uninstalled Roxio direct-cd-shite, so that leaves the display drivers as a possible suspect.....

Just be sure to save the activation files so you can restore them after the OS has been reinstalled and avoid a call to the Microsoft Activation Police. (You can find a description of how to do this on the web, I'm sure.)

Dear All,
I met a problem when access network shared files in the kernel driver.
I always got a "Access Denied 0xc0000022" error.
The senario is:
1. A Win2000 Domain;
2. User account "Acc" in this domain in Domain/Users group.
3. A Shared folder on a Server(win 2000) in this domain.( the Acc has the
permission to full control to this shared folder)
4. A Computer(win2000) in this domain
The steps are:
1. I logon to that computer using the domain account "Acc"
2. I start a app and send out an IOCTL from this app
3. Create a system thread in the driver after receive this IOCTL. and create
a security client context.
4. When needed in the dispacth routine of this driver, impersonate the
thread using the saved security client context then access the shared folder
on that server in this domain.
Always got an 0xC0000022 error.
5. But When I logon that computer using an adminstrator domain account. Then
every thing ok.
6. even after logon under adminstrator's account then create the sytem
thread and log out and relogon under the "Acc" account, this time I can
access that share folder also.
So, Is that I miss some configuration on the server or on the domain about
privilage or security of that "Acc" account or server?
What I should do? Does any one has any suggestion?
Or is there any books or articles about those? I search on the web. still
can not get whole picture about security and network resource access and
user account and logon.

Hi...
My friend's PC has a 19 GB HDD. The "fdisk" when run on DOS shows that it has 19 GB as the whole single partition ("c:"). But when we saw in windows (Windows ME) it shows as 11.9 GS in total. Whats wrong. Any remedy??

Are you sure you were looking at FAT 16 and not FAT32 ? Most likely you should upgrade bios and it that doesn't work install the utility that comes with the HD that masks to Bios and OS into thinging the drive is 19GB .... example Maxtor/Western digital comes with software to do this ....

Thanks... but the thing is, I have already formatted the PC again and reinstalled that with windows 2000. And now.. oops its fine with the HDD memory. Anyways thanks for ur reply....

Hi,
I am currently trying to retieve the path to a CDwriter, I have the targetId of the scsi device and require the drive path. I have a solution for NT,2000 which uses the CreateFile function to obtain a handle to the disk device and then use this handle with DeviceIoControl function and a drive path to return a targetID thus correlating TargetIds to drivepaths.
Unfortunately this method does not work on 98 as the CreateFile function will is not supported for retrieving a handle to a disk volume on 98.
Does anybody know of a method to get a handle to the disk device on 98 or a completely different method which would produce a drive path from a targetId or TargetId from DrivePath.

Ok I am sick of rebooting our server every time it flipping well runs out of terminal service "slots."
Basically we remote connect to our hosting box and we cannot always logout properly as the line may drop etc. We do try to avoid maxing out the number of active/disconnected connections but every now and then it does max out.
So does anybody know how to "reset" this situation without actually rebooting the server? Rebooting a server hosting websites is never a good idea, especially for something so daft as this. The OS is W2k.

- Log on to the Terminal Services-based server locally.
- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Terminal Services Manager.
- Click the appropriate Terminal Services-based server. Note the Users Tab in the right pane.
- If there are two remote sessions, right-click one of the users with a Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) session, and then click Logoff. (A reset also accomplishes this goal, but does not save profile changes.)

Thanks for the effort but that is exactly the problem: Our server is located in a veritable castle co-location facility which requires DEFCON 4 clearance to get into
So we remote connect to do anything. If we have to have something physically done to the server then we call up the co-location facility and they charge us an hours worth of work to do something.

Remember to avoid this situation you have to tell your admins to log off when done with TS and not to disconnect . Disconnecting leaves these sessions connected ...

Thanks and very true advice. We do ensure that we logoff and not just disconnect, but due to the nature of our remote connection often we don't get a chance to do either as the line drops.

Hi!
I'd like to run a application at Windows shutdown (I use Win 98 SE), but don't want to run that application during the whole Windows session. How can I achieve this (registry setting or batch file)?

run 'regedit'. Search for the file that plays durng the shutdown process (see at the sounds column). And try to fix ur shortcut there....
try ur luck there??

XP SP1 has been running great since it came out, so how do I get rid of the service pack uninstall? Can I just delete the directory like I [think I] did under NT?
The same with hotfixes uninstalls.

That's what I did when I noticed how much space they were taking up, and no harm has come of my rash move. However, this is XP we are talking about, so don't sue me if things don't work out the same

Anyone have any insights as to why mail will not be delivered to external address.
We have an Exchange 5.5 system. A second server was installed with W2K and Exchange 2000. A test sample of mailboxes was moved. We could send and receive internally and receive from external addresses. We could not send to external addresses though. Have no idea were they are going to.

I had a problem with my partition table. My winXp restarted and then never booted even though i had Grub as boot loader. So I tried to fix te partition and removed linux's boot loader (GRUB). Now my Win98 works fine bu XP keeps telling me it has found a new Volume. I still have 4 ext3 partitions for linux but it wasnt the problem earlier.I had to stop Logical Disk anager service in XP.
I guess I need to solve it thru some sort of partions software. Wat could be the problem and its solution.
