I have a div tag with a scrollbar. The standard scrollbar in IE that always is visible do I want a different color of than the color of the div tag's scrollbar!

So how to make the color of my div tag to red and the standard IE scrollbar to black?
Can I use CSS and specify the class to the scrollbars?! If you know what I mean!?

Force a stylesheet reload in IE

Hi folks,

I'm working on a webpage using a stylesheet - but when I've changed the stylesheet file and reloads the page - the changes aren't visible. If I close the browser and reopen it, changes in the file are reflected on the page.

I've set the "Tools->Internet options...->Settings (in the Temporary internet files section, on the General tab)->Check for newer version of stored pages" to "Every visit to the page", and this works fine for regular html and asp pages - but not for stylesheets. And I can't set the buffer used for file caching to anything below 1 MB.

So what do I do ? Any help is much appreciated.

Clicking the Refresh button has always worked for me... even for style sheets.

You could try holding shift or ctrl when you refresh (which forces the browser to do a full refresh and forget any cached content. different keys are used by different browsers, and I can never remember which is which)

Hi all,

I have an ASP application (not .NET) that uses VBScript to access Files and Folders on a Data Server. I had hoped to be able to just map a drive to the shared folder, but this is not possible due to security issues.
SO I need to know how I can use the "net use" command to map to this share and still be able to use the FileSystemObject to see the files and folders.

You can't do this from plain VB-Script and as far as I know, FSO doesn't provide this functionality. So your only option is to write your own COMponent (poc in VB).

I try to do this:

Hi All,

I am curious as to whether anyone could tell me where I might find some info on the browser compatibility numbers, by percentage, for the tag?

We are looking to use this tag on a rather large project and I am unable to find a good resource for finding this type info.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what you mean by "percentage" because a browser either supports the tag or it doesn't.

I only run a small site, that doesn't get a huge amount of hits, but the majority of my visitors use IE6, and 98% of my visitors use IE6, IE5 or Netscape6/Mozilla which all support iframes fine

Well he needs both what browsers support the iframe and then how many people use what browser. So we both helped him Smile | :)

Netscape 4.x: 4%
IE 4: 8%
IE 5/6: 87%
Other browsers: 1% (Opera, Netscacpe 6.x, Mozilla 1.0 etc.)

But it doesn't matter, we should all be coding towards standards not browsers...

I guess my stats are a bit abnormal then (13% Netscape6/Mozilla users) - then again it's probably not surprising when you consider the number of my friends that I've converted to Mozilla Smile | :)

Javascript: close window after printing

I want a webpage to show the printdialog and close the window when this printdialog is closed:

window.print();
window.close();

What am I doing wrong?

btw: is it possible to disable/change the header/footer dynamically before the page is printed?

window.print(); should load the print dialog to the screen, however it won't run the window.close(); function until the print dialog has closed by the user hitting the print button or hitting the close button on the dialog. Otherise the code works for me. Smile | :)

I have read the messages about changing the colors of scrollbars, can this be done on elements within a form only - eg. a textarea or select box.

Firstly you should not be wanting to do this. It is an IE specific feature, not part of any standard and takes control and familiarity away from the user.

Saying that: Yes you can do what you are asking. You simply assign the same scroll bar CSS attributes to the form element that you want styled.

e.g.

<textarea style="width:200px; height: 200px; scrollbar-Face-Color: #ffcc00;">
Not recommended but this is how you do it anyway
</textarea>

That would make the scroll bar face of your textarea orange.

Obviously when you do it for real rather use a CSS class than an inline style.

Hi,
I'm new at ASP.NET, and I'm designing a web app to access a database on the server, the problem is I don't know what to put as my connection string. The program works fine when I use a .mdb database on my local hard drive, but I want to connect to a database thats in the data directory on my server. What would my connection string be, the app is being written in C# with the code in a .dll.

I don't have one to hand, but what you can do is use Server Explorer to create the connection for you (see the MSDN help for more info), this then has the added advantage you can view the database as you're developing code for it.

When you select a connection you'll see some stuff in the properties window, in there should be a connection string. If you need more info let me know and I'll come up with a better answer Smile | :)

PNG alpha channel support in IE6

I wanted a nice transparent image on a web page, and having shadows, etc. i saved as a PNG with alpha channel. But it appears as grey in IE6. Am i hallucinating? Is there something i need to turn on/off/some weird CSS style that needs to be set?
