In vC6, to to 'Project Menu', then 'Add To Project' and 'Components and Controls'. The window will open. Go to the 'Visual C++' components and select 'Splash screen'.

Hey all, I trying to use the ListCtrl class in a program and I'm quite new to this, I though if i made my view a CListCtrl instead of CWnd and change the .Create etc. it would use a ListCtrl as the main view, it compiles fine but the view never updates, and shows whatever was on the screen before.
I've been looking for tutorials or examples of this but could only find the article on here that shows adding it to a dialoged based app. so if anyone could give me a hand or has a link to a good tute, that would be great.

What headerfile and library do I have to include in my project so I can use StringCch...-functions like StringCchCopyW and StringCchPrintEx?
tnx.

Ok, have to include strsafe.h and strsafe.lib
Can anyone tell me what api this is? I don't have this library.
I hope it isn't the *$@# ms platform skd. I cannot install that one cause there are some major problems in some of the dll's. Like entry points that are changed so half of my installed programs like "cakewalk sonar xl 2" don't work anymore cause they need the old entries.

It seems it is. The MSDN page says that you need to go to SDK Update Site to download

Damn
I've changed to the regular sprintf stuff If strings are too long then they are too long. point! I'm not going to check 'em (only if exception occurs someday)
Another question. Have you installed the platform sdk? I had some trouble especially with the msimg.dll and the getgradientpane call.

Are you C-hardcore type? Or using std::string or even CString isn't an option?

No. I don't have any reasons for that. Sometimes I need some #define, but I just insert it into app source.

In fact, I've copy-pasted some code and I didn't notice the hundreds of stringcch... stuff in it.
I'm hardcore lot of things, but hardcore-c, no that I'm not . I know cstring though, but it's not an option here.

Do you know the _snprintf, _snwprintf functions?

I do now
Tell me, why does someone want to use the stringcch equivalents? Is there a good reason for that.
btw: I'm a java coder, so names like snwprintf don't say anything to me. I would have called that function something more intuitive. but hey, they tell me that's c...

I want to insert some resources next to some old ones I created a while ago.
Are there any tools for renumbering the resource id's so that i can insert one or do i have to do it by hand?
cheers

Thanks, i've already got that, it only really solves conflicts and when it renumbers it changes the order.
I went back to the website though and it had a link to a macro on codogure which might solve it.
cheers.

Sorry, if I display the CString in a MessageBox the new lines work, but when i used CStdioFile::WriteString to write the string to a file when i open the file there are no line breaks, everything is just on the first line. how do i get the line breaks, or do this a bette way?

Hey Luke,
I have been putting \r\n and even just \n in my strings and I get linefeeds and carriage returns just fine when I view my file from notepad.
CStdioFile file;<br />
file.Open("c:\\tempfile.dat",CFile::modeCreate+CFile::modeWrite,NULL);<br />
file.WriteString("Hello\r\nLine2\nLine 3");<br />
file.Close();
How about you post the code that's causing the problem?
Cheers
Adam.
