VB.Net is an excellent language with a bad stigma. C# is a C++/Java wanna-be language. Admittedly, C# is a decent language, but it's not all it's hyped to be. It is great for what it was designed for, writing reports. I agree with you on Perl. Who the hell write functions like q(), qq(), qw(), qr() and qx() and expects anyone without Perl function guide to understand their function? The original developer was not available and no-one else was at all familiar with the code. I always went home at the end of the day in a foul mood. Nonetheless I admit that Perl is very good at what it does. But today if I was asked to do Perl-like tasks and I had a choice of technology I would opt for Python or Ruby. The latter in particular is partly sold as a "better Perl." Kevin Working in a multilanguage environment Tim Carmichael2-Feb-09 4:15 Tim Carmichael 2-Feb-09 4:15  Where I work, we have legacy applications running in FORTran and C, desktop applications written in various flavours of VB and web applications written in classic ASP with VBScript and JavaScript. On the database end, we have Ingres for legacy applications, SQLServer for more 'current' applications, and, in corporate, Oracle. So, we work in what is required for the time, and, largely, leave the language wars to those that don't have anything better to do.
