Hi all,
I'm fairly new to web services, so please forgive me if this is common knowledge... I can't seem to find it anywhere.
I have a project requirement in a web service that I am writing, such that if a particular function fails I need to stop/shut down/disable the web service from code. I've searched this forum and the net at length but can't find any information on how this can be done. At this point I am NOT particularly concerned with elegance, just with getting the job done. Elegance is always appreciated, of course!
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

I would make a database table that contains this information. If an error occurs update the table with the error information. At the very beginning of the web service code, add code to check the database to see if the web service can continue. Not necessarily the most elegant but very easy to code and maintain.
I didn't get any requirements for the signature

I agree that's very simple, but in this case we need to make the web service non-responsive. There will be a pool of servers running this service, and really what I need to do is make the service inavailable to the pool, so our customers don't start getting "gee sorry, I have an error" messages, but rather just roll to the next server in the pool.
Sorry I didn't think to explain that earlier.

Well then, I can't help you that. This doesn't sound like something that should be done via code.

Hi all
i have a problem with regular expression,my requrment is
start with I/i then five digit then . and then one digit
for this i have write some expression
var exp = new RegExp("^I|i\[0-9]*\\d{5}.[0-9]$");
but this expression is not wrking, can u help mee
Thanks

The regular expression would be:
(i|I)\d{5}\.\d
(i|I) -> either a lower case or an upper case i
\d{5} -> five sequential digits
\. -> the decimal point
\d - one digit
so the fully escaped regex on .net would be
var exp = new RegExp("(i|I)\\d{5}\\.\\d");
Note: you could also use the ignore case Regex option flag and just include the i instead of (i|I)
P.S. I would recommend use of the Regex Coach - a nifty little tool for designing and testing regular expressions: http://www.weitz.de/regex-coach/[^]

hi
i need to log out when the user close the explorer by click (X)button

You can capture the event when user closes the browser in Javascript,and from that you can call some server side code to logout from the session.
One thing,if you close the browser then also after sesstionout time user automatically logs out.So if no specific requirement like secuirty or some logs for it,then you can use above one else you don't need to care about it.
Cheers!!

You can capture the event in js and use AJAX to tell your app that it happened. But even then, I would not trust it 100%, I would never write code that relies on the user logging out, I'd impliment a timeout for users who manage to leave my site without me knowing.

Hello Guys,
I want to build a web page that looks like some sort of search web site with navigational boxes(like by people, by place, etc) on left hand side and actual document content on the centre of the page, all this data will come from a service call as an xml file dynamically.
So I am looking for some help on which controls I can use on asp.net 2.0 or 3.5 to pick the data segments from the xml file and display it on the web page and also be able to do post backs if i want to navigate on any control.
Can anyone help me with any example code to achieve this?
Many Thanks
happy coding!

You have some XML data that you want to display correct? Use XSLT to transform your XML into HTML and write it to the page. If they are standard HTML input controls, like a submit button the postback will be triggered.

I am creating a couple of textboxes and dropdownlists dynamically. I need to put RFV for all of them. Since the rfv id will be different for each control, how will I generate them and make them fire if the values are not entered by the user. I tried adding the following:
RequiredFieldValidator rfv1 = new RequiredFieldValidator();
rfv1.ControlToValidate = fieldTextBox.Id;
But this is not firing? ANy help in this regard please?
Thanks,

I have write this on Page_Load()
<br />
RequiredFieldValidator _re = new RequiredFieldValidator();<br />
_re.ID = "test";<br />
_re.ControlToValidate = txtRoll.ID;<br />
_re.ErrorMessage = "This is a error Message";<br />
form1.Controls.Add(_re);
and working fine

give some error message for your required field Validator like
rfv1.ErrorMessage ="Some Message"
