Thinking of going to Vista 64bit ver. I've heard good and bad as far as apps running atop this version of the OS. How does this run with MS Office and other non-MS apps.
Thanks In Advance.

Drivers are really the big hurdle with using a 64-bit OS. I can't recall any apps failing to work at all on the XP x64 system that's my main dev machine. (Aside from shell extensions where the author doesn't provide a 64-bit DLL, but that's not the OS's fault.)

Hi,
I have an application that needs to be installed on several m/c's so i have created setup using InstallShield. The installation ran successfully and application works properly if Nortaon Anti-virus services disabled.
But If I run the same installation with all services of Norton enabled then my application crashes. But disabling such services are not feasible, since this needs to be done on several m/c's. Is there any to avaoid it. Do i need to change installshield code for this?
Pls help.
Thanks

Depends on your code that is triggering a problem. Do you write to the registry at all? What OS?

During installation of product we are registering some if our dll, which requires registry writing. Also we are installing our product under ProgramFiles directory.
Thanks

Your AV could be picking up on an application trying to write to the registry. You would have to add an exception with your code to allow this I suppose, I wouldn't know I haven't ran into this problem.

The difference is that I have same application which is subset of this and it run properly. But when I am running main application which communicates with server (implemented in Java) using SOAP 3.0 is giving problem. Are there any services run with such AV which could block communication between client and server.

There's a whole bunch of ways to get an up to load at startup. The simplest and most user friendly is to put a short cut to it in the startup folder.
Alternatively you can create a registry key for it here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\
All the other ways are explained here:

Thanks for your reply. but I this option is modifiable for a user who is having Admin wrights. I need a solution where normal user cannot change this and transperant to him.
Thanks

Put the reg key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE instead. This then effects all users, and the user must be an admin to change/remove it.

Thanks but where to put in HKLM i.e under which key we need to provide details of application that will run while system boot time.

Come on. Seriously. If you actually read the link I gave you it gives you everything you need to know, including the full registry keys. Or you could try using Google, which is what I did to find that link.

Is there any remote desktop software have this function:
set controller as server,
set remote desktop sender as client, and this client is a sub lan.
so, the controller can not connect the client,
but the client can connect the server.
this is opposite to generally remote desktop software(e.g. like MS Windows Remote Desktop).
we need embed Remote Desktop in our software,
but we don't want to develop it.
Glad to discuss with you and best wishes.

Well, UltraVNC has some plugins to allow such usage, otherwise you could use PortImport[^] Which should work with almost any remote desktop software.

Hi, I have a problem with my ADSL modem. During the time that I run this modem its usually get stuck when its run around 5 hours. I try to check the configuration in my network but everything is normal. But when i turn it off around 5mn and turn on again, the internet is running as normal. It is happend many time a day and I also try to fix the problem by this solution.
One day I asked the technician at ISP company to check it and after that they inform me that this modem is too old and the configuration value of MTU in the modem cause the problem to make an internet interrupt. They recommend to me to change to the new modem which is going to solve the problem.
Currently I do not have any idea yet about this suggestion, so I would like to know whether MTU configuration in the modem really affect to the an internet connectivity process?
Thank in advance

Changing the MTU?? That probably won't fix the problem, but, you never know until you try. It's more likely that you do have a problem with the modem though.
|
|
|
|
|
So what is the most likely cause of the problem?
|
|
|
|
|
An intermittant drop in the DSL connection. You can replace the modem, but it's just as likely that line quality will be causing the issue.
