OK, so when does the error occur ? Does any code run ?

yes when i run the code and try to debug the connection to verify connection on form load event then error is acquiring.

OK - the first thing to do in this case, is to debug the code and work out what line blows up. The next, is to post the line and your connection string, etc., if you can't work out the issue.

I am building a data access layer based on Microsoft's tutorial located at:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa581778.aspx[^]
According to the article you can build a TableAdpter with a query that references 2 tables by using a sub-select rather than a join. For example, CategoryID and CategoryName. Quoted from the article:
"... the auto-generated methods for inserting, updating, and deleting are not affected by subqueries in the SELECT clause. "
My problem is that when I try to use my tableadapter with the FormView for editing, I get the 'ol "ObjectDataSource 'ObjectDataSource1' could not find a non-generic method 'Update' that has parameters: ..." message. I can use my TableAdper with the gridView successfully, but it doesn't work with the FormView.
I've created simple tableadapters that reference only one table and it works just fine with FormView.
Can someone shed some light on this for me ? I've wasted 2 days trying to get something so simpe to work.

Hi Guys,
I have a small requirement where by i need to find out where in a mail did the user clicked. I am adding some small javascript to find out the same and send the result back over a XMLHttp request.
Things works fine with the rendered HTMl in browser however if i send this content to a mail address it looks like the providers take out the scripts. Thus the javascript does's't fire.
Could you advice me if there is a woraround for this.
Thank you
Thanks

Yep - invent a world with no malicious code, where people don't get spammed every day with emails trying to steal their banking passwords. Then mail providers won't assume you're sending something that they want to remove.

Hi Chris,
Sure it could be a malicious code for the providers. But the requirement in my hand is to track where on the mail did the user clicked and to award somepoints to him.
Any suggestion how we could do this without hurting or troubling neither the user nor the mail providers ?
Thank you
Thanks

Hello I am studying(New Bee) asp.net and I am doing one of my exercise and it's all about small content management system so I have created one web page with few images on it and now I dont understand where to start what does content management system should be I dont want code but before I can start coding I want to understand it what CMS should be and In this exe. it says that,so I mean how to start this exe.
1- All the text content should be held in a database (either SQL Server or Access) and displayed on the page using ASP or ASP.Net (your choice).
2- A small content management system should be built to allow for the editing of the content of this page.
3- The news should be in it’s own database table, each item a separate record which your page will loop through to display.
so any help for this
waiting for your kind rep.

This is pretty straightforward. Perhaps you need to talk to your teacher ?
bapu2889 wrote: All the text content should be held in a database (either SQL Server or Access) and displayed on the page using ASP or ASP.Net (your choice).
This means what it says. The content in a CMS is stored in a DB, so you write a page that knows how to retrieve items from the DB and display them. CP is an example of this. The code for this forum stays the same, it's the posts we type, that get stored in the DB, that changes how the page looks from moment to moment
bapu2889 wrote: A small content management system should be built to allow for the editing of the content of this page.
Which is exactly what is happening when you entered this post into CP.

This would be like the news feature in CP also. A seperate table in the DB and a seperate page for showing news items. Of course, you then need an admin page for entering them, too.

Hello sir
Thanks for your rep.
so it means all the HTML I have to store in database for each page, but the main thing is that in question it says "content management system should be built to allow for the editing of the content of this page." so when user want to edit it what user going to see HTML or web page on screen? i am confuse with this that what if user dont know html or any thing to do with programming how user is going to edit it ? I think i am going to much deep in it but this exe. could be far more easier but I am not getting there and I have allready created one page (home page) and it's looks very nice but it's not doing any thing untill I make it usable, and I forgot to add remaining pare of question which is as bellow
No tier-pages need producing, only the home page.
The client log-on box needs to be actual form elements, but needn’t do anything when submitted.
waiting for your kind rep.
have a nice day

If it's that sensitive then don't save it within the virtual directory for your site, put it off somewhere not browsable.

Hi all,
I have 2 pages (p1 & p2). In P1 iam getting a result of a stored procedure returning it to a datatable and binding it to a gridview. After i get the results i can open each result in another page P2. In P2 i can do several server side requests. I need to get back to P1 and need to maintain the same results i had without using sessions coz iam afraid i cant handle it properly. Is there a way i can keep my datatable alive so when press back i can get the previous result of search from database?

I think the best approach is to use Session.
samerh wrote: i had without using sessions coz iam afraid i cant handle it properly.
Why ? What is the reason ?
samerh wrote: Is there a way i can keep my datatable alive so when press back i can get the previous result of search from database?
Only by hitting the Database server again !!

Hmmm let me see...
I think i have an idea. If i added an input button and used javascript history.back(); return false;
I can get back to the page before. But this will only work if u dont do a post back on page P2 right????
If i manage in my case to prevent going server side on page P2 then i will be able to get back to page P1 and maintain the data.
My problem is that i have an asp.net button on page P2 that loops through the grid and opens another page using also
javascirp window.open. If i manage to prevent this button from refreshing this page then i will be able to do it....
execuse me iam just thinking loud

That's Good. But why you are afraid to use session ? I think that is the think that you can implement easily.
cheers,
Abhijit

Most people are instructed to avoid using the session, because it's the most expensive way to go.

my suggestion is u have to use session to fix it.no other go.
u cant keep data alive.
if u found any other solution to fix it..let me know..

The best way to do this is to make p1 and p2 controls on the one page. Then, you can change which control is visible, and viewstate will maintain the state of your pages. The other way to do it, is to put the parameters that define the search on the querystring, so when your user goes back, the same search is repeated, because the querystring defines it.
